Nice! LRDG and SAS got me back into building...
Love the terrain... the sculpting, textures and palette very convincing! I've not ventured there yet.
... And one of my first bits of scratchbuilding was, yup, a theodolite! I will probably reprise the effort at some point, the first being a bit small for 1:35. Bagnold and his epic adventures in the desert, before and during the war, led to my whole infatuation with the softskin vehicles of the African campaigns. And lately, some armour as well.
theodolites are fascinating gizmos… in some of my first excavations as a voluntary student of archaeology, we used a WW2 epoch one. Very military looking- specially the bullet like cover, and of course the fact that we saw the world upside down. But later had the privilegde to work on another education project where we a WW1 one! After some research into the type of things the lrdg did, of course the theodolite had to also be one of my more serious attempts at scratchbuilding.
