Doughnuts and burning rubber

I was a big F1 fan in the 1980s, the Marlboro McLaren was absolutely iconic. Reminding me of Jakko's recent comments about 21st century prudishness and censorship, that era the sponsors were often alcohol and tobacco companies.

I was surprised my how many varieties of colored bits there were.

Of course plenty were black and silver too.

I put some silver into the "dark iron" to make it more metallic. I was careful not to overdo it, but might have underdone it.

So I applied another metallic dusting to get more what I was after.

Looking good to me. Pantherman

Seatbelts didn't scare me. Even though a 1/24 racecar is a lot smaller than I thought it would be, the belts are huge for a 1/48 or 1/32 aircraft guy.

The effect is subtle, but I have high gloss chrome on the rotors with bright silver on the hubs and calipers. The reflective nature makes the calipers look gray here.

Very complicated stuff in there (and lots of bits still missing), not necessarily more than I expected, but in the small scale it was tedious.

@Edbert I too was a big fan of the Marlboro McLaren during the 80s. I also loved NASCAR when it was the Winston Cup Series. A lot of great car livery and sponsors back then. Your build is looking fabulous and all the details your putting into it make me envious. I'm really loving what this GB is turning out!

I think I'm going to call.
I'm not too happy with it, the decals gave me some trouble laying and curving to the body. Several pucker areas.
The kit is typical Tamiya – no real flash, except the driver legs and arms, but nothing too concerning. The kit went together in typical Tamiya fashion.
The decals have ample glue, so they went down well, other than the pucker here are there.
I decided not to use all of the decals, just the main ones as they had become a little frustrating.

Gary that looks great! I think you mastered a very difficult decal job. Well done.
