All right, decided to go along with you guys and share my WIP pics on my contest entry.
Going to be building the Revell 30th Anniversary Colonial Viper from the Original Battlestar Galactica.
Rather than going stock, I'll be using the MMI "Scarlet Viper" conversion kit and one of MMI's "Seated Female Viper Pilot" figures.
Boxed kits with the "funnies" to show date for the entry.

All right, now for the actual build pics.
Here, I've inserted the intake scoops into the housings, as well as assembling the new main engine thrusters. I've also assembled the cockpit tub.

Cockpit tub has been inserted into the fuselage, and the halves glued together.
I've also assembled the main engine housing.

Re: Colonial Viper-Scarlet Class

That's looking cool already. I love those Vipers and can't get enough of them. ;D

Re: Colonial Viper-Scarlet Class

And, now, the work completed since that first update.

Major sub assemblies mostly completed.
New aft thrusters are in place on the main engines. Intakes are in place in their shrouds.
To correct a nasty gap in the nose, I actually attached the resin piece to the main fuselage with a thin ribbon of Aves Apoxie Sculpt that was then smoothed out over the joint.
I've also cemented the cannon to the wings and rudder with CA after straightening the longer ones out.

To bring this version more in line with the "new" version of BSG, I dremeled out the RCS thrusters in the nose and engine piece.

That done, the main fuselage was cemented to the engine assembly with CA

Wings were attached with CA.
The canopy is only sitting in place, awaiting cockpit details and pilot

And finally, we have her where we sit tonight.
The whole bird has been primered in grey, except for the canopy which will be painted later on down the road.

lookin good! primer stage is always exciting ;D

Re: Colonial Viper-Scarlet Class

Time for another update.

Decided, after looking at the panel lines in the add-on parts, that my nearly smooth fuselage wasn't going to cut it.
So, as an experiment, I decided to draw in the panel lines with mechanical pencil.
http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/quaralane/Galactica/Viper-Mk1-ScarletClass/Revell-Scarlet/rm-viper-scar-11.jpg

The more I looked at it, the more it didn't work for me.
So, I put the ultra fine grinding bit into my Dremel, and went to carving out all of the panel lines in the fuselage and engine block by hand.
The layout may not be canon, but it works for me.

Re: Colonial Viper-Scarlet Class

Another new update, taking advantage of the holiday weekend.

Finally assembled the pilot for my ship.
She's missing her right hand here, because the kit cockpit has the hand fused to the flight stick.
May or may not put her holster on, since it won't be visible in the cockpit.

Added a black wash to the cockpit interior to bring out the detail.
May not go in and add more, again because a lot of it will be hidden by the pilot once she's in place.

After some consideration about the color scheme, I decided to mask off the stripes and paint the rest of the ship red.
Here she sits after removal of the masks. The canopy is only temporarily attached to ease painting
I need to touch up some of the striping, and then go in and paint the engines.

Sweet I really like how this is turning out.

Re: Colonial Viper-Scarlet Class

More progress pics.
Have to love long weekends for getting stuff done.

Viper with canopy removed, and engine detail painting done.
I've also detailed the guns slightly with a black wash.

In the home stretch now. Just need to do some decalling, then weathering

Re: Colonial Viper-Scarlet Class

Nice paint work. I like the orange you used on this, very pop :)

Re: Colonial Viper-Scarlet Class

I agree I think it looks better with the alternative colors.

Re: Colonial Viper-Scarlet Class

Actually, the "orange" is a trick of my camera and the lighting on my bench, but thanks.
She's a lot more red in person.

Have some updated pics tonight.
She's been sealed, and the decals are on her now.
The markings all came from the set of decals available from Starship Modeler.
I used the "Pegasus" emblems in place of squadron emblems, and kind of iprovised the remaining decal placements..
The ship is marked as belonging to "Sheba"

My quandry now is this:
Do I call this finished now?
Or do I weather it?
