With respect to metallic paint, I rolled the dice on Alclad metallic lacquers a year ago (having never used them before). I applied them to an ancient F100 kit I rehabilitated from the 1970s. Alclad recommends laying down their gloss black primer first. I'm not sure that's necessary or if it is just their means of selling more paint, lol But I did as they recommended and was very pleased with the results! So much so, I have some aircraft kits in the stash I'm looking forward to doing in all-metal and Alclad will be the choice for me.
I'm a big fan of gloss black coat as base coat for metal finishes. It is supposed to help reflect the metal color. I've tried it both ways and do feel the metal looks best over black gloss.

AN NOW the spruces with the long thin fusealarge an there should be 3 canopyies but im leaving it as it is
Awesome choice BOATMAN! She's a beautiful bird, and quite large!
This stuff really helps with very old or thin decals. Pantherman
I understand it helps prevent fracturing, but what can be done for 24 year old decals (probably stored improperly) that will not separate from the backing paper?

They are yellowed but sunshine can bleach that out, what if anything, can be done for glue that will not soften?

You're getting there. Just stop and continue another time if things don't want to cooperate.
HI Jakko yes ive done that several times this week as i was getting tired tryin to work out how that undercart all dry fitted so i asked jen an she dint have a clue either so just as well i stuck at it as i must have dry fitted the main gear several times before i got it to look right before i gluded it up an that was fingers crossed as it was so complex an the pics i had to work with were a joke just as well ive a lot
of patience as had to like on them hornets planes

I'm sensing a bit of a WOW moment is on it's way
HI Downtime yes this plane should look WOW when built an all lights goin but ive got to stop an think ahead on how these wires an eletric plugs should be fitted in the model as its easy to get ahead of myself an then it time for regret an wishing id taken all things like fit an where the wires an plugs should have been fitted into account as on this big model there are wires goin in all dircetions an im hopeing to fit 1mm FIRBE OPTICS into the instumment panels with differnt coloured light if poss an enough space to fit them all in but at the moment this may be just a pipe dream but ive orederd the 1 mm F/O to have ago as i used these in my big USS ENTERPRISE with good effect ATB SIR

If you paint the end of the fibre-optic with transparent paint, you can give them any colour you like with just one white LED behind the fibres.
WELL DONE Jakko yes ive done that before on a model but this time i just dint think of it as ive got all the main tamyia clear paints so i can try an do it many thanks for your suggestion sir as that what i'll try an do hopefully should look good an the plane has a fairly big cockpit glass on it so the lights can be seen hopefully
CHEERS SIR
