This is my first post and just thought to share my experience and thoughts. I purchased the 1/72 Apollo and raft via real space models. This was a resin kit which came with a base as well, although I didn't end up using it. The Apollo capsule was sanded then painted in dark browns and covered in bare metal foil. This was then "carefully" scraped away as per the reference photos. The helicopter was a mashup of an old testosterone kit with a new airfax sea king. After doing some research the helicopter, was not old 66 and it was nearly impossible to find any decals that were correct. Thus I ended up making my own and I can easily say that the laser jet decals are sufficent but by no means anywhere close to kit quality. Painting via airbrush using Valero. The base was painted with AF pacific and acrylic medium gel. The figures were modified 1/72 "flight crew" and the vests were made via millput. Divers were modified pilots with styrene canisters from thin rods. Perhaps the most difficult aspect of this build was finding clear reference photos of the splashdown and recovery. Many photos were in black and white and the color ones that I could find were in low resolution. This made everything incredibly difficult. But I'm mostly happy with the results. I can't say the same about my photography skills:) Thanks for reading and I would certainly recommend the kit from real space models.

Very cool diorama.
Is this the only pick up, Ole 66 didn't get?
That bird has to be pretty old by now.
And…
Welcome, welcome, welcome.

Thanks. I believe 66 was used up until Apollo 13. The flight crew was picked up by a Sikorsky SH-3G Sea King helicopter, Bu. No. 149930, of HC-1, and transported to Ticonderoga. See https://www.thisdayinaviation.com/tag/uss-ticonderoga-cvs-14/ in my research I found this great article about the rescue team and a mini bottle of champagne. https://www.rrauction.com/auctions/...wn-cm-rescue-arrow-and-recovery-team-wetsuit/
