AMT Razor Crest 1/72 "One day build"

This is my first real build post - haven't been building for a long time, but its a miserable day outside so I thought I'd try to finish a kit today.

Decided on the Razor Crest - got it on clearance at Michael's, so not too worried if I mess up. Started well, no real fit problems.

Finished the hull and engines before lunch - just took them out to prime them.

After lunch - painting and assembling the cockpit!

It is a great kit and out of the box it can easily be a one day build, especially if you use Spaz stik mirror chrome rattle can spray paint

So ... cockpit mostly done - waiting to dry. Painted (sort of - I'm not as dexterous as I used to be ...) and mostly assemled. Not going to see much of it anyways.

Hull painted in gloss aluminum - no pics yet. I may have oversprayed!

I'm really gonna have to work on my paint game .... I usually build 1/35, so this is way smaller than my comfort zone. Still - not too bad for my shaky old hands!

Well, my aluminum paint refuses to dry sufficiently to allow handling, so I'm shutting down for tonight. Pretty much all that remains is popping in windows, slapping the hull together and joining he engines.

Then, decals, weathering, final sealing matte coat.

Rather a lot, really ...

OK - I let the paint dry for a couple of days, just to be sure. The rest of the kit went together just fine.

In retrospect, probably should have built the ship completely, then painted. It would have been easier to mask the few little windows. Ah, well ... live and learn.

Off to weathering. Quick question - do an overall acrylic gloss coat, then enamel wash - Decalling before the wash or after?

Depends on what the wash is for. Is it to shade the model? Then I'd say before the decals. But for making the model look dirty, do the wash after them, so the markings will be dirty as well.
