So with the time to finally get back to the bench more than an hour a week wanted to start with a classic..AMT's 1953 corvette. Will be doing this one out of the box with scrathbuilt mods only..Started by opening the trunk and the fuel filler door. Wanting to keep it pretty much stock. Still haven't decided on final color but will get to that later...

Until next time... ::)

After some research have found that in 53' only 300 were manufactured and were equipped with a Blue flame special inline 6 cylender engine and came in Polo white only.. So the engine in the kit is incorrect, a V-8..
I really do want to keep this one as original and am going to try to find an inline 6 cylender block..Does anyone know of an aftermarket Blue flame special engine kit?? I think that AMT's 1950 pick-up kit came with the basis for the blue flame. Does anyone know if that's true?? Guess I need to do some more research and order some Polo white paint..LOL.. ::)thanx

After more research found an inline 6 cylender close to the Blue flame special..block ready, will scratchbuild the intake manifold and carbs..primed the body,heavy on low spots of the molding. Sanded it till smooth and shot 3 coats of polo white..2 color sands and style letting it cure before top coats go on..thanx for looking

Finished the colorsanding, leveled out the orange peel to a near glass finish. Still have a couple spots at edges of curves and ridges that still need a bit of work..started 3200 and worked up to 8000 grit pads..

With that done will be ready for the top coats. Going to use Vallejo acrylic gloss, due to temps right now..should be 3 coats with wet sanding with 4000,6000 and 8000 between coats..No I don't have the 12000 grit,,the dog got hold of it and it can't be save :( thanx for looking :D

Second clear coat applied. A bit of unevenness still but final wet sanding should level everything out..Thanx for looking..

Finished up the engine..Also just realized this is the old Ertl kit from the 80's that Round 2 just reboxed..It's not a very good kit but make the best of it...Also finished up the interior, the wood FX didn't turn out as good as I had hoped..

And finally finished it..A ton of work on the surface to smooth out the plastic. Came out OK, but every one completed is a bit more to learn from..Thanx for looking and enjoy the styrene..

Thanx, as long as you learn something from each kit then it's good and I learned from some mistakes on this one..
