Those slats that go on to of the aircraft Leading Edge Extentions are to break up the airflow before it hits the Vertical stabilizers. We call them LEX Fences. They were a Canadian inovation. On the starbord (right) side underneath there is the ECU which as a Tech I changed out a lot. Thanks...

I would go with distilled water too. I actually used rubbing alcohol once with "tole" paints. the result was a rubbery coat which was easy to remove. At that time I had been using Gunze Paints (early 90's) and I used rubbing alcohol with that paint with some sucess. There are so many variables...
