Wow, what a beautiful build. I was looking at the Mobius kit the other day (a friend has it) and was lamenting the loss of my old Aurora model from years ago. I heard the airfix one is not so great.
I'm thinking I would do a scratch-build for this contest. What's the best way to register that? Do I send you a picture of my workbench/box of scraps/picture of what I'm going to build?

It's been a while since I've had time to work on the LM. With work and life and other things there isn't much time for modelling. But I am still making progress albeit slow progress.
I'm working on the RCS Plume Deflectors. These are largely the ones that came with the kit. I'm going to try one...
Here's how I'm making the shrouds for the upper leg supports. I started with a paper template and curled it around a paintbrush. I had to refine it several times to get the shape just right.
I then transfer it to my Pyromark (which is flat black lacquer sprayed onto aluminum tape, which is...
I've finally got to adding the Pyromark shrouds on the upper leg supports (at the ladder leg anyway). And I've added the ladder and the "Porch" (including the MESA release handle). Next up are the remaining shrouds on the other 3 legs.
Someone here asked me about my windows and I thought I'd post the artwork. It's in PDF format and all you'd have to do is print it to an inkjet printer onto inkjet transparency film. Then paint them white on the backs and you've got some decent windows. Mind you, you can't see through them but...
Yes. Same stuff. I always keep some of it around since I find so many uses for it. It's thicker than BMF so it's much easier to work with. And you can emboss it with a pin and you get instant rivets!
Back on to the descent section now. I'm applying foil to the area closest to the descent engine. I marked the area into quadrants and then press the foil onto the area to get a faint impression. Then I just trim the foil and press it into place (it's self-adhesive).
Then added the engine...
Thanks. I think the EVA antenna is a dash too long but I can live with it for now.
The goldish bands on the antenna supports is Kapton tape. I bought a roll for $3 on ebay and sliced it into super thin strips and very carefully wrapped it on the antenna masts and on the legs. It's also all...
Finished the antennae and the docking alignment target (all scratch-built). Moving on to the smaller details like vents and oddball fibreglass bits and pieces.
