Just another scale model builder returning to the hobby in retirement.
I'm happy to be back and excited to see the changes in the hobby. So many aftermarket offerings and painting techniques and products to try.
I'm mostly an aircraft model builder, but cars and motorcycles are also in my stock.
Thanks for having me. 🙂

It just occurred to me, this being such a reoccurring theme, that it might more properly be described as:
After a long interlude, when jobs and family kept us away from the bench, we have come out of modeling retirement to wield our knives and brushes, better than ever!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Pantherman

Exactly what happened to me, and it's very common with us 60+ folks.
I went to AtlantaCon back in March to catch up on the hobby and load up on supplies from the vendors. While standing in line to cash out with a basketful of paints, I happened to mention I was returning to the hobby since my retirement. More than one old guy chimed in "Me too!"
I never felt so welcome at an event in my life.

This is far more common than I would have thought!

I built in the 70s and maybe 1980 before girls and cars consumed my mind and desires. In college (82-86) is was more about budget and space. But I did (sorta) pick up the hobby again in the early/mid 90s. I had a house and a family by then, but still was limited to "building" on the kitchen table.

A few years later video games (air-combat in props is still my favorite, but slowly losing to simracing) kinda took over. But a YouTube vide showed up at random into my feed in 2024 and I have been all-in since then!

Welcome "home"!

My experience was a little different. I introduced my kids to scale modeling, so I didn't actually leave the hobby. However, in all that time, I completed exactly one model, a 1/48 Revell P-39. I worked on that kit off and on, trying out every technique I read or heard about on it. I began referring to it as my "test bed aircraft." It came out pretty well.

Thank You, Littlemarten. Funnily enough, I too chose a 1/48 P-39 to test the new techniques I've been watching online.
Not the Revell/ Mongram kit though.

Welcome back, Dude. Find a bench, pizza's on the table in back, and have fun,............. and don't mind the mess!

It's like riding a bike, ya never really forget, you're just a little out of practice. Same story for pretty much most of us, but we Ruck On, Bby!

Cheers, Ski.
