Looks to be just the bellhousing is a mess, a little body filler will make it look better, but now how do the heads, intake, timing cover and pan fit up is the next question. I will look around to see if there is a resin or printed 400 someplace in my sources.I expected the kit to be bad but no way I'm using this engine. Trying to find a resin kit, won't be true but at least it won't look like crap. Well, hopefully.

Nice! Its a rough kit but can be built up to a decent model. I totally agree with you replacing the engine though.

That's interesting. When I was 17 I bought a '68 GTO from a guy who was a mechanic for Pontiac. He had restored that and a beautiful red '65. I told him I really liked the '65 but he wouldn't sell it. I finally found a '68 kit I'm going to buy. Wish I had some pics of my car.Its funny..I spent 20 years with real pontiacs..very hard to get things for them..that cost nothing for chevys
I decided to forego the chrome trim, they only supplied the kicker plate anyway, and am painting it myself. Also did the underside exhaust and axle, etc. a few misc parts for the f14 I'm working on too.I expected the kit to be bad but no way I'm using this engine. Trying to find a resin kit, won't be true but at least it won't look like crap. Well, hopefully.

And here's my chrome since I ditched the kits chrome and added it for window trim.
And in Chicago if you listened to the LOOP it was "Time to get the LED out."And here's my chrome since I ditched the kits chrome and added it for window trim.

I think it's a decently detailed underside. Some lines, strapping and decent metal finish.

Scratched some front seat belts, rear was part of mold. Made the gauges and pedals chrome since you can never have too much chrome on a GTO. And added carpet. I need to put one more coat on the body and paint the hood and front fascia. Other than that waiting on the motor.I think it's a decently detailed underside. Some lines, strapping and decent metal finish.

Got my motor! Put most of it together. Will paint and get ready for install. I've ordered some paint from Proscale so will need to wait for my shipment. Excited to try out some new paint.I expected the kit to be bad but no way I'm using this engine. Trying to find a resin kit, won't be true but at least it won't look like crap. Well, hopefully.

Yeah, usually I would have painted the parts in segments but I got so excited I almost had the entire engine together before I thought about the paint! Let's see if I have the patience to wait for the Proscale paint!Good call on the engine... pretty decent detail!
My second car was a '66 GTO I bought for $650 in 1972 that had a "cherry" body and interior but a "sick" replacement 400 cu. in. motor from a '69 Goat. Dad knew how to rebuild engines so we did a father and son rebuild of the engine together - great memories. She would turn mid 14 seconds in the quarter mile and caused my Dad much heart ache. Eventually traded it in on a '69 SS 396. And then the gas shortages came!!! So did a 1974 Vega hatchback!!! AAAAAHHHHH!That's interesting. From a goat to a Vega? Thats a huge letdown! I loved mine. Seemed like that front hood wood lift a foot when I took off. If I'd only known what my cars could have brought in today's car collector market, I'd have stashed them away. Ah Youth...........
I'm sure there's many other stories out there!!!!
Again, yee must understand the economics of a young man who was tired of waiting in gas lines for 5 gallon limit. 1974 was tough on muscle cars and less than 10 miles per gallon. It suckedFrom a goat to a Vega? Thats a huge letdown! I loved mine. Seemed like that front hood wood lift a foot when I took off. Had so much fun with that car.

Well my ******* was posting gto stuff on my firebird thread. Had to chop up the body a bit to get the engine to fit.I expected the kit to be bad but no way I'm using this engine. Trying to find a resin kit, won't be true but at least it won't look like crap. Well, hopefully.

Added plug wires and touched up motor. Repainted the body- decided to use a different blue. AK Rally Blue. Then because I put the cart before the horse I had to repaint the chrome, hit the badges and door handles/locks with chrome too. This has me looking at gto's for sale. Haha. I'll let it sit for a few days and hopefully my two part varnish shows up before I lose my patience. Was really hoping to wrap this up for the new year.Well my ******* was posting gto stuff on my firebird thread. Had to chop up the body a bit to get the engine to fit.
