An interesting story but probably all too familiar.Stress at work has always been an issue for me but the last couple of years it has been especially burdensome. I wont bore anyone with the details but I decided i needed an outlet. More than one actually. My first passion is motorcycles and I love riding my sport bikes. Have for several years but Im in Ohio not the mountains of Tennessee at the dragon. Yea I go there every year but thats for a week. Everything else is boring after that. So I picked up another hobby flying rc airplanes. I do enjoy that. but I needed more. Especially for winter since the first 2 are weather connected. So I decided to pick up model building again. Havent done it in years. Like 25 plus. Back then all I had was a spray can and glue. This time I went a little further with airbrushes and a lot of extras for a much more detailed attempt. I started a build of a b17 by revell. So far so good. And once I got started with it I realized that my stress levels have gone down. Go figure. In any case take my situation and consider it if you are feeling stressed or whatever maybe pick up a couple of hobbies to do. Its helped me a great deal. I dont expect to do anything close to the level of work Ive seen here but thats ok I dont have to. Im glad I decided to do this again and glad I found this resource as well.

I started back at this in 2018 I think it was and haven't looked back. Just relaxing and rewarding to see what you can do and watch yourself improve as you go along. Can't say a few moments of stress don't pop up once in a while though. Small parts lost to the carpet monster and all but the relaxation of it offsets that completely.

I am just a beginner scale modeler but one year ago, I started to build model railroad structures. When I am concentrated on the job I am doing, I don't have time to think of anything else.

I don't have a layout yet but I am planning to start building one soon.

You should try model railroading too. I have chosen N scale.

I am also starting into miniature wargaming. I am building my first 6mm armies. I plan to play solo because I don't want to wait for others to play. If I find players, fine. If not, I will play alone.

I was also stressed out and it was suggested to me that I should restart a happy childhood hobby. Though what have I got to loose so bought an older tamiya model to practice on. Wow, it's working. Not stress free but so much happier. Loving modeling again and alot of others here to help. Keep us posted with your progress.

Tail of the Dragon does make other roads feel like straightaways in the desert. I am lucky to live an hour from it and will often wander that way and relax at Tapoco Lodge after a day of 318 curves in 11 miles.

Perhaps try scale r/c aircraft modeling? The thrill of not dorking in a project you worked all winter on.

Having been stationed in 29 Palms, I can tell you that the road with the highest number of motorcycle fatalities (at least Circa 2009-2010 when I was there, Tail of the Dragon has gotten substantially more internet famous since then though) is a straight road in the desert... Bikes, straightaways for unreasonably high speeds... and gusts of wind from being in a desert are not a good combo.

But as a responsible, and decently capable driver, I've driven the road in 29 Palms, but I'm way more excited to try Tail of the Dragon once I lower my car and stiffen up the chassis a bit.
