What do you get when you cross a ................. (Warning This thread may contain graphic images of a Kit Bash)

You know with a little Nanolaminate Armor for R2, lasers would just split and reflect right off his dome piece. :p
That COULD be an opportunity for a Pearlescent paint on R2, lol. If you so choose.

Fair warning this cartoon contains adult themes! This clip specifically has males without shirts and child soldiers in it (albeit piloting mechs)
But it also shows Nanolaminate Armor splitting a high-powered beam weapon! (lots of surrounding collateral damage from beams splitting too, again fair warning before viewing.)

**UPDATED 19-Jun... Flight Crew done.

The pictures are a little blurry but we get the idea. This is one of the most interesting projects that I have seen in a long time.

Started on some external piping / greebles.
Trying to use the existing lumps and bumps on the F-111 to attach them too or run them from/to.

**UPDATE 05-July – Have started on the undercarriage.

I've decided to run with Millennium Falcon Undercarriage parts as the max take off weight of the F-111 is 92,500 lbs, and the little delicate X-Wing landing gear would crumple under the load.

Nose Undercarriage uses a single landing pad from a Millennium Falcon which has been trimmed (Cut & Shut) to accommodate the slightly narrower nose wheel well.

Main gear seen here in mock-up (not yet all glued up) using parts from the Falcons main gear. Funnily there are gaps in the molding that the F-111 stub axels fit right into. I will stabilize and fix with Araldite.

All in all I like the look of the gear, it's not that much lower than what the F-111 would sit with Tires, but just enough to make it look a little pimped out.

Well, it's been a slow couple of weeks.
That whole 'Work' thing again :(
Anyway, I've been tossing up what to do with the canopy
I went down the path of opening up the crew access doors.
Although I wasn't sure how to do this I used the hive mind on Facebook to come up with all manner of hairbrained ideas.

I finally went with the modelling clay and exacto knife option.
Used modeling clay to pack out the canopy. Started with a brand new Exacto blade, then realized I should stop drill the corners, continued with light pressure cuts and about 20 minutes later, hey presto.

[there was at least 2 run away blade cuts - you'll see 'em]

I'm pretty happy with the result, and a bonus - I didn't cut myself

Painting is progressing. To do the camo scheme I wasn't able to get hold of any masking putty so I tried the Vallejo Liquid Mask.

Bit chunky in spots, should come up ok when the weathering is done.
