what type of battery for power source

I'm new to lighting and electrical in general, just wondering what the concensus is on best battery type for use in a stand alone model/base. I would like to power 12-15 leds, no flashers or other components. thanks for your help

I find with LED's it's best to use a set of AA or AAA batteries as most time a 9 volt will burn out the LED you can get battery holders for AA and AAA at any electronic store hope this helps

If you use two AA or AAA batteries, and only White LED's then you will not need resistors in your circuits. Just use clear paint to change the color of the LED's.

Two AA batteries, will power up 15 LEDs for quite a while.
