Okay, here we have the final pics for the build.
For a refresher, as well as for those just joining us, this is the Revell Republic Star Destroyer, built out of the box, with custom decals/markings and some weathering and battle damage.
For the battle damage, I used a couple of different techniques.
I started by roughing in the damage with a small grinder bit in my Dremel at about 2000 rpms (or whatever speed '2' is on the Stylus dial)
Then, I carefully filled the holes with Testor's liquid cement in a method I've used with the tube version and lit it with a match.
Using the match to further things, I let it run along the hull to help scorch things. (WARNING: BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS AS FIRE IS DANGEROUS!)
I then went in and painted the "holes" with metallic silver.
Some of the holes were covered with simulated repair plates that I made using the foil from "poptart" wrappers.
WIth the patches glued on with CA, I then used a blach wash to dirty up both the painted areas and the repair plates.

Thanks guys.

@Grendels,
I feel the same way. First tried this WAYYYY back in the 80s with an MPC Star Destroyer I hated, and liked it

In the distant past, before I took a 15 year break from models, I would imitate scorch with a brush and some flat black paint. I don't remember exactly how I did that, but it was pretty close to dry brushing.

I will have to try your scorch method some time.

Hum, you are making me get ideas. I have this large magnifying lens, and the sun here is really bright and HOT right now. Might give it a try and see if it will scorch plastic really well, or just make a melted mess. This lens is large enough that I once caught a 2x4 on fire with it.

Either way, I will experiment around a bit. I have some old testors tube glue and liquid in storage.

Don't worry I will be careful, that is why you experiment. In controlled conditions.

Famous last words before the city is obliterated from the face of the earth. LOL

The model looks good! The decals are nuts!!! Wow! Great job! As for the damages.... At first I thought they were sprayed on! Then I read they were scorched! You sure love to live dangerously!

Styrene fires are fierce and very toxic in nature! Play safe! Not a job for inside! That's for sure....

Once again, nice model!

Norm.

Thanks, Norm.
I wanted something unique out of her
And I work VERY carefully when using this technique, never too big an area at a time.
