Tatiana's Vanship - Hasegawa 1/72

Thanks all. The fit on this is superb . My first Hasegawa kit, very impressed with the engineering, I have quite a few in the stash. I know what I,ll be building next ... :)

Hope to get a few more pics up today.

Instrument cluster attached and cockpit glued in place.

Tried some chipping effects on the metallic parts but wasn't happy with it it all. So I decided just to do some preshade and will make do with some washes and sponge chipping later on.

Thanks for looking :)

Nice little update.
Understand completely about not liking the chipping and changing plans

Got some primer on, love the Vajello polyurethane , bugger to clean but goes on nice and dries nice and clean.

Paint soon ! Had ideas of going for a chipped finish, but not confident enough with that technique yet.

Any ideas on a paint scheme are welcome. ;D

Are you using sponges to mask the open areas of the kit? :)
I am not sure of what color scheme.. Of course I initially thought of black, but that might not show enough detail....Then I had a wacky thought, what about an old hot rod scheme with a flame job on the front?
;D ;D

Primer is good! As for colors, well let your imagination go! That is what I would have done.

I really like the Vallejo primer.

Red/white. :)

Mike- yes sponge for masks, hope they work..haven't tried them before. I like the flame idea, but wouldn't be able to pull it off.

This was my original colur combo idea and I keep coming back to it.

Something about the lines of this ship reminds me of a Strat. I reckon these colours would work well and suit the 50's feel of it ...??

Have also considered a candy red. I've seen the Tamiya transparent colours that could work over a gold base.
Any one got any experience with these ?

Cheers ! :)

Yes, the color combo on the Geetar would work very well.
First off, they are the colors of sky and cloud, AND they are reminiscent of cars from the fifties....
Although the body styling of this Van ship is more like something from the 30s.... I think it could still work. :)

If it was my choice, I'd go for high-polish Racing Green:

with an itty-bitty of Alcladchrome here and there!
... but then I am a total loser with clean paint jobs, so I keep on dreaming! ;)

So I'm still toying with the idea of a metallic candy finish. Went to the LHS today and bought these

Then I needed something to experiment on, so I bought they cheapest kit I could find with some curves on it which was this

Then I did this

Allthough I'm happy with the way it came out its not what I was I had in mind for this build....oh well back to the drawing board. :-\

At least ill have a kick ass Jag to build at some stage ;D

Thanks for looking

cool technique on the Jag but it has some orange peel effect dunno if its the light affects it or just the pic
:D

I would try a different base coat. Something like Alclad or a Testors metalizer from a rattle can. Should stop the orange peel.

Sweet looking model, I like the Candy red, or maybe just a simple glossy red? You definitely need some streaking effects on the sides of it from high speed maneuvers!

Thanks guys, I took the pic when it was still wet. The orange peel isn't really evident now that its dry.

Some progress today :)

The kit supplies decals for the white highlights but they looked too white for me so I painted with ivory.

I thought these parts would be easier to paint first and mask off.

I tried another experiment with the Jag chassis. Found a bottle of Vallejo chipping medium so I though I would give it a crack. It didn't spray very well, I thinned it with water because it looked too thick...... Is this stuff supposed to be thinned ?? I used my old AB so that might have been part of the problem. I will try it again tomorrow with my new AB and see if it goes on any better. All going well I get an effect resembling this...

So in preparation I sprayed and undercoat of chromate yellow , should contrast nicely with the blue.

Finally some colour ;D

Thanks for looking. Would be keen to hear from any one who has used the Vallejo chipping medium. :)
