Tamiya Yamaha YZF R1 trio build 1/12

Thanks Boots, The bike looks awesome, i have this one in the stash, pretty sure i have some detail up parts too ;) may be the next bike build?..
Tried mixing the Tamiya Red and white but can't quite get it to pop as well as the Flourescent, I will have a look tonight for a suitable replacement. :)

Also, sorry for the quality of the pics but i'm having to use the ipad camera as my digital has decided to retire....
Jay

Thanks Jay.....................yeah i hear ya regarding the colour, it does look a lot more fluorescent now i`ve had another look..............hope you manage to find something suitable fella :)

Made a bit more progress since i last posted, Front and rear ends are now attached to the frames.

You will notice that the first pic has no front mud guard, this is now being resprayed due to my ignorance regarding future and laquer  oh well another lesson learned (does anyone know how to remove future without damaging the paint underneather??).
I am begining to think this build is a little cursed because i have had to strip and repaint all three sets of fairings and body parts ;D still it gives me more practice with the airbrush.
Here are a few more pics of the three amigo's. Thanks for looking. Jay

Hey Jay, these are looking very nice! You have inspired me, I just pulled out my 'MYZR-M1 and ordered some detail parts for it. Looking forward to some progress.

Hey Adam, thanks for lookin in. Awesome, i will follow with interest :). Think my next bike will be a Kawasaki as i got a few extras for the kit.

Hey Jay, I've built a copy of these bikes before but I've never super detailed any of them. Besides Top Studio super detail sets do you know what I should look for when trying to find detail parts?

Thanks LGB82.
Adam, try crazymodeler.net, studio 27 or Tamiya's own detail-up sets. There are a few more rarer but parts are hard to come by. Hope this helps. Jay 8)

OK, two pieces of advice, first, do not spill acetone anywhere near a painted part, or you end up needing to strip it and start again

second, always check all the parts when you buy a second hand kit off ebay and it states new and unstarted (believe it or not people lie???.)

It looks like they started to put the reflective decal on and made a mess, then tried to clean it off with thinners of some kind? ::) So not sure exactly what i am going to do with it? any thoughts. Thanks Jay

Jay, do you have a nice set of sanding sticks and/or polishing kit? You can sand all that down and polish it. Start with a heavy grit and work down to a very very fine grit. Then all you will need to do is dunk the wind screen in future, put it on a piece of paper towel, cover with a cup or something and let to dry 3 days. It will look better than new.

Hi Guys, this is the latest update, Nearly finished (finally!!!) ;) Thanks for the tip Adam, it cleaned it up a lot but the damage was too much to totally correct it, so a little artistic licence and it doesn't look to bad now but you'll have to wait for the final pics to judge for yourselves :p

Fantastic work man 8)

Good concept building 3 at once, an ambitious project but you did it very nicely.

Excellent stuff mate

I also like the white and red one but the finish on the pink and black one is also excellent, my only concern is i think you need to bleed the rear blakes on all 3, i think i see bubbles in the lines ;D

Did you inject some ink or something, very nice effect

Gag

Thanks for the comments guy's. :)
Gag, yeah it is a technique i'm trying as i have seen it done a few times but not 100% sure what medium to use? tried thinned Tamiya clear, it injects fine but as you point out it starts to develop air pockets. Any ideas?
Thanks, Jay

Excellent work Jay !! All three look fantastic mate ...well done :)

Chris.
