Some of you lot might have seen me skulking around the Si-Fi section, but after a tough few week in my personal life, and blankly staring at a sea of starfleet white....................

Its time to re kindle the painting bug.

I picked the Spitty, as my granded just bought me the COOLEST faky Dremel kit, and its sublime for modelling. And it was gramps that is partly to blame for my love of aircraft (i got the space thing from dad ;) )

Captain Carstairs Kirk. I had to name him, i tend to talk to all my kits as they progress.

Really nice detail inside caught me off guard a little, and made me sure dropping the spaceships for a little while was the right thing to do.

Insert your own joke here.

A coat of olive, over grey primer, just to give everything something to stick to.

detail is sublime compared to all that trek nonsense!

thin layer over the top, just to bind it all together

A smidge of dry brush, all the strokes were facing down towards the belly, and quite "stabbed" into the surface as if to show the wear of getting in and dropping tools etc.

Captain Kirk, sitting resplendent in the leather clad chair i hand painted, only to find he totally obscures the leather cushion
I find the detail on the face beyond belief. If both excites me, and terrifies me!

Anyway, thats 1 afternoons work.

More coming soon!

Cool ! Another Spit ;D nice Kit too , great start on the office Dave ,keep it coming ;)

Chris.

From warp nacelles to prop. No matter......always gonna be fun when Dave's in the house.

Had a good day. I have glued the main fuselage together, but I have some serious seam work to do 8)

Dave, I'm loving your paint work! I especially am captured by that pilot - brilliant painting!

Just one thing - I know this is all nit picky and stuff and I know you can't change the title
now but... I believe the 43 is supposed to be 48 ;D

OK, 1 parts to this.

As a green monster, it was beautiful. I was over the moon.

then.........................

ruined it

whispy and undefined.

However, not one to be defeated..............

watch this space ;)

Your painting looks fine ,but try cutting some paper masks for the camo ,that will get rid of the overspray ,on the Spit you should be aiming for a 'slightly' soft edge ;)

Chris.

Well. I was in the man cave at 9am this morning. And, I got my self busy!

I mixed my own brown by adding about 1/3rd olive drab. The other thing I did was to completely dismantle the air brush, and clean it from top to bottom. And, to be honest. It was time WELL spent ;D

The other thing I did was get a little excited by the progress, and left the camera in the house.

So. I re painted the brown, but the over spray just made it look dusty. MOOOAAAARRRRR GREEN!

Im pretty happy with the progress so far. Tonight, the bottom.

Oh sod.

Isnt it funny how most of lifes lessons you learn the hard way!

Dave,

I got to tell you man, I don't see anything wrong with that. ???

Not the big dirty line of overspray?

all light, dust and taunting me to think more next time

Smusno - nice to see you building a wingy thing. ;D And the Tamiya Spitfire is a fantastic kit for a first try at aircraft modelling - good choice.

The office looks really good, I like your paint work on the pilot. The overspray on the camo shouldn't be too hard to fix. Maybe try Chris' suggestion of paper masks. That's how I painted my Spitfires. Any ways I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Oh that. ::) I missed it somehow. It looks pretty light. You could probably weather it out.

Nice photos. I usually brush my interiors, but I can see there is a better way. I haven't been at this for very long though. I am glad you chose to branch out from the sci-fi genre.

Dave you have a few options with dealing on the over spray. I had a wee bit of it on the Buffalo I finished a few weeks back. So I decided that after it dried I would take a high grit sandpaper and lightly rub off the flecks of over spray. It worked out great. Secondly you could do as the boys said and make up some paper masks and re-paint the effected areas. Time consuming yes but you will definitely banish the over spray to bogie land. Weathering that out like Jim said might be a tricky task....it's spread pretty long over your two tone camo scheme. If it were smaller and a monochromatic color I'd say weathering would probably work great. Try the sanding first and if you rub out down to the primer/plastic then re-paint.
She'll be flying high in no time.

Did anyone here asked you what PSI you are using to paint ???

anything above 20 is pushing it....

Good luck with your project ! you did some pretty good work ... don't let go !
