Here's my first try at the SMA 2012 Big Spring Contest. Tamiya's 1/35 german Hanomag Sdkfz251/1 kit#35020. I plan to build it OOB in the colors and markings of the DAK.

Thanks T. I see you have a few awards, I pray that one of my builds will score something and if not I still get the joy/fun of being part of the 2012 BSC ;D

OMG..WOW what a blast from the past!! This will be great fun to follow. Good Luck! :D

I had that model 15 years ago, it was cool ;)

That mold was old then. ;D

All right Roy! Good to see you jumping on in. Today I decided on my first entry. It wasn't any of the three I was originally thinking about. :-X

Thanks guys. Looking over the parts trees there is a small bit of flash. A few parts look as if the molds were not lined up exactly right, nothing that can't be corrected. I plan to get started in the next few days.

Here's an update on the halftrack. So far I'm enjoying this build very much.

The road wheel shafts look as if the molds were not lined up:

Here's the tools I used to clean them up with:

Here's what they will look after I cleaned them all and attached to the hull:

Here's the dash, once the hull top is attached almost none of this can be seen:

These are the seats. Are this lighting holes that need to be drilled out?

If you look inside the model... Cabin or underneath the frame you might find out WHEN the kit was made... I believe this one is late 70's or mid or early 80's !!!

maybe why you are encountering a little .. misalignment or mould fatigue !

Great little kit anyway !

Good luck and Have FUN !!!

Norm.

It doesn't surprise me considering the kit has a date stamp of 1973 ;D

So what about the seats?

its older than me  the seat would have a stabilizing pins on both side I think.

Roy i completly missed this one, i built this kit back in the 90s when i lived in london and had it up until a few years back. i really enjoyed that kit, so ill be looking forward to this

Thanks guys.

So whats the deal with the holes in the back of the seats? Do they need drilled oit or left as is?

I am no 251/1 specialist ! but Seats are... at times confusing ! depending on the vehicles issue date or Variant !

Don't forget, Your kit is mid 70's maybe Tamiya had limited access to one or made it all up from Blueprints? I don't know !

On the INTERNET, you see a lot of Refurbished machines with various degree of authenticity ! same goes for Finished Models that you can find on line as well... doesn't mean because its on line that it is Authentic !!!

There are a Lot of "Photo etch sets" to replicate the SPRINGS that were the main
Support of the Seat Cushion and Back Rest ! I have seen those Holes on cushion before and they were Air-Holes to let the back breath ! Don't forget that some Army guys would find a nice Blanket or Sheep-skin to cover his CHEAP Army seat to be more comfortable ??? Maybe even take the time to Sew a Canvas Cover ??? or Steal a Seat cushion from another Vehicle.... who knows ? and that's why a lot of peoples just make something up !!!

Good luck !

Thanks for the information. Looking online just seemed to add more confusion as to what's correct. Since there is a huge ejector pin mark in the back of the seat I may just go ahead and cover the back. As you said perhaps the crew covered their seat ;D

you can do Like you've said... or Sand down the Mark and Add those Tiny springs.... from a photo etch set you would have to purchase.... choice is yours and we will go with what you pick.... No Biggy !

Good luck !!!
