After being inspired by Uru's SBY Mecha Collection build, I was motivated to get back on an old project I'd set aside.
I had to literally dust this off for painting, but I'm happy with how she turned out thus far-

The base model is from the old 70's line that's been repopped many times- it's the Bolar Cruiser- a great generic design that I've kitbashed into several SW ships- a nice heavy freighter hull with modular sections for any custom use
- here's a link to the kits stock appearance

I'd built up another one of these as a command frigate for the crimminal organization Black Sun for a group build at keeperoftheforce.com-
http://www.keeperoftheforce.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1188
There, I went with Grey, Black and yellow- Black Sun colors- with green text to reflect the color of the owners' skin.
I wanted the ship to look posh- befiting the heads of a vast crimminal organization.

This ship's paint is very bright and mostly pristine (so far!)- a real departure from the usual "beat to hell" look of SW ships, but hey- they want to attract paying passengers!
She's not finished by a longshot- next is gloss coat, then tons of decals and then another gloss (Future) then some weathering to tone down the colors and give her a sense of scale
THEN, the base and fighter escorts and pics.
I think I'll call her something aquatic- the Dolphin, maybe?

As always, questions and comments are welcomed!

See, Uru? You can really get crazy with these smaller sized kits- or maybe I'm already crazy and the models reflect that.
(shrugs) whichever.

Is that tape-measure a small scale prop or is that ship really almost 5 inches long ?

Seems a bit huge for you JA ;D

That pic of it from above reminds me of the cruise liner @ planet Flosom (sp?) in The Fifth Element 8)

BTW -- check out HLJ's inventory before you pay 12- 15 bucks for those 2199's http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN989483/Sci -- that's two and a half bucks ;D

Glad you're so proficient at printing your own decals .
I've yet to do that but could definitely benefit from it !
What's the best decal paper for an ink-jet printer ?

Be posting progress a little later @ the Rabid Empanada ..

Cheeeeerss !

Oh, thst ebay link was just the inly decent pic I could easily Google up- I think I got four of these kits for $6 each a few years back- bedore the Yamato 2199 series made the vintage kits crazy expensive (relatively).

I do indeed print my own decals- I just buy a ten pack of clear and a ten pack of opaque white from whatever ebay seller I have saved- I can look it up gor you
I have laser printers at work- I'd pass on inkjet for decals: too much PITA.
Just have FedEx Office or Office Depot print on your decal paper- as long as you buy paper for laser printers, you'll have no isues

But the kits got no decals yer- that white pinstripeing is cut sign vinyl- perfect for details styrene or paint can't handle or would be a pain to do- jus t cut and apply. I use it for replacment panels in this scale- styrene would be several feet thick in 2256 and blows some sense of scale

Made some decals (no, I'm not using all of them!)

Here's a better link to how the ship model looks stock-

A great jumping off point for making something better- a lot of SBY designs are good for that, but this one in particular is a favorite of mine due to it's plainness.

It comes with weapons right off the showroom floor ? Or what ?

Do I need a license to buy one ?

If I canst crew it immediately , could I lease it ?

No license needed to buy one- but there is a background check and three day waiting period...unless we cut a deal in the parking lot. Imperial credits or spice- none of those Rebel chits, thanks.

SW ships all seem to be modified in some way or another- one of the SW RPG books is all on freighters and there's a quote where a captain tells a newbie "Son, there aint no such thing as a stock light freighter!"

I think the only "showroom fresh" ships ever shown are military stuff for the Empire and the Naboo designs- everything in private hands has some unique tweaks- and a lot of it has been flying for decades or more- SW retires nothing!

I added a link to decals I made for this- don't know if you saw that-

Made some decals (no, I'm not using all of them!)
Doing this from my phone is a PITA!

Got the decals and weathering done- once it's settled, I'll add some psstel and stick it on a base
In some pics you can see the liner's parasite craft- a retired assualt boat that docks on the aft landing pad.
I will add paint for engine glow as the final bit- once the dark wash on them cures completely
Maybe orangy-red in color to offset the blue on the hull?

Couple more spurts of dullcoat and she'll be ready for better pics
Probably add some fighters escorting to add scale.

I wanted big panoramic windows along the side- as there are on cruise ships.
If you look closely, you'll see docking ports and on the ventral side, massive hatches for taking on passengers' personal craft.

No ( the assault boat floated away ? ) & which ports ?

;D

There are docking ports on the sides of the bridge structure and on the hull just aft of the white triangular markings (which have the cargo doors decals).

Lets see if these pics work now- I'm adding some bits and the aft platform now sports a Tyderium shuttle.
New pics coming tomorrow- with escort ships and fighters for scale!

I think I would like the hull form more if the bridge structure had less cantilevered out there . , or there was something below it to give it a reason .. ... like a tennis court or something .

Awaiting the next dailies ;D

The bridge structure serves as an emergency lifeboat- the flat bottom would have repulsorlifts and landing gear.

Can't have the wealthy passengers going down with the ship, can we?

I've got another of these on deck with a more military slant- maybe replace the aft landing pad with an enclosed hangar- you could house a bunch of fighters in there- particularly A-Wings.

I still need to take pics though. I need a backdrop ot green-screen...
