SMA What's New In Your Stash?!?

Last night a video popped up in my u tube feed. A walk through review of a hobby store. Turns out it's only an hour and a half drive from me.
I need more Tamiya XF - 19 Sky Grey paint for my USS IOWA build. I was about to place another online order with Andy's Hobbies ( great place ) but I always want to support brick and mortar stores, so off I went this morning .
Small store but packed with everything you need. Found my paint right away and spent another 45 minutes looking around.
I bought more than I needed, gotta support these last surviving mom and pop stores.
Picked up a 1/24 Master Box figure. It will be a nice change of pace for me, need to improve my figure painting skills. 17485587545437403961133365121087.jpg
I really enjoyed being in a hobby store again, the best part was when I went to pay. Katie, the elderly lady there, brought out a battery powered calculator and store stationary pad and wrote up my order. No computerized crap at all! And the kicker.......a 20 % discount for paying cash. :)

Today will not be my last time there.

What a GREAT story! I particularly like the correction made there in carbon, from $50 to $51.

Anyone here that is in MA better head over there and help keep this company profitable. What is a few percentages of margin to us?

Yes, everything I bought could've been had cheaper online.
The experience of re- living a little bit of the past was well worth it. I only regret not spending more money while I was there.........but I'll be back.

Good on you.
I'm spoiled with 4 LHSs in my area.

Local, when I can, is my MO. The same guy cut my hair from the age of 13 to when he retired a few years ago. Angelo knew my dad, he knew my brother. Eventually his son had the chair next to his.
We in the UK have one local train/RC hobby store and a Hobbycraft that does expensive Tamiya kits of all sorts!

American sales tax confuses me. Aside from the well-known weirdness that it's not simply included in the advertised price, your receipt has me thinking it's calculated before the discount is added in?
Yes I've been caught by import tax here in the UK. Customs and Excise as they were saw me as an importer not a hobbyist! So $40 shipping plus £20 import tax!

This showed up today, from a well known online model shop not Satanazon.

Wait until you hear about our property taxes. I paid off the loan for my house over 15 years ago. But I still write a check each year for over $9,000 USD just for the right to keep "owning" it, fail to pay and the county/state will take it away.

Something like that has happened to me too: I ordered some books in the UK last year, for example, and I got to pay 21% VAT over them — despite books being taxed at low VAT rate (9%) here, and the envelope clearly stating it contains books.

Though that's not what I was referring to :) If you look at the receipt in the photo, it's for US$60.24, and the sales tax (which in America is indicated separately and not normally included in the price shown, unlike VAT in Europe) is US$3.01. That looks like 5% tax on the basic price to me, but there's a 20% discount that seems to not have been taken into account for calculating this tax. Unless the tax rate is 6.25%? That would fit with the price after the discount, anyway.
