A quick update, I sprayed the whole thing back and started with the veneer planks.

Thanks mate, there is a decorative surround around the window frame with shutters attached so I'm not worried about the uneven edge around the windows, same with the corners as there is a big upright on each corner.

Two problems, I put some weight on the planks until the glue dried but unfortunately they moved before they dried so I've got to either remove them or work something else out and the second problem is that one of the window is out of square but it wasn't noticeable until the planks went on, making another frame isn't hard.
It's all good fun!

The planks came off easier than expected, a few drops of water dripped on the edges softened the PVA, I'm a happy bunny!

I don't know what these terms mean .
I assumed " hoofing " was a regional term describing some kind of edge treatment of the lumber .
I googled that and that other word with zero results before asking .
