Question about SMD light Strip

Was wondering? On a SMD White light strip, can you take Tamiya acrylic Transparent Red, Blue, Green etc. and paint them with the transparent colors instead of buying, different colored light strips? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have done this before. The light is not as bright or true to color as getting the colored SMD.
