im using tamiya grey surface primer and it does not say on the can what the dry time is. Online some say an hour some say overnight and some say 24 hours.

Which is correct? I cant imagine it would take 24 hours. Its been outside for 2 hours on a warm sunny day in the sunshine, surely i can put base coat on now, right?

Yeah , man , you're good to go with it being out in the sun for that long .
The acrylics and true nitrocellulose paints can be retopped plenty fast -- as long as the solvents have flashed off , which is pretty quick .
Watching isopropyl alcohol evaporate is a good example .

The crosslinking with many of the acrylics continues after the solvent is gone , so it does take additional time for the paint film to become fully developed , but that isn't affected by overtopping it with additional coats .

@urumomo i primed some stuff this morning with tamiya white primer outside, let it sit outside for a few min then brought it inside to dry as its too cool and wet outside.

It still smells, does that mean that the toxicity is still there? I assume its less toxic than the fumes when sprayed.
