I don't typically like building 1/72 fighters—too small, too fiddly. But Griffon-powered Spitfire kits are hard to come by and this looked like a fun side project while waiting for glue/paint to dry on my main build.

I know it's a re-boxing of the Academy kit. I went with this one as it has more unit marking options than the Academy version. I've heard a lot of negative things about it, but I was pleasantly surprised by the level of detail. Cockpit particulars aren't completely accurate, fuselage is a little thick aft of the cockpit, and the prop blades look a little short. But otherwise a perfectly nice little kit for $15. I won't be making any mods or using aftermarket parts.

So in the parlance of the men who flew these fine machines, "Let's get cracking, chaps!"

Surprised by how decent the cockpit on this little $15 kit is. If the seat frame hadn't been so chunky I might have decided to leave the canopy open, but as is I'm planning to close it up. After I had all the painting done, I remembered I've got a spare seat frame in an Eduard kit, but leaving as is now. I probably would've needed to thin the cockpit walls to fit it, and I'm just not going there on this build. I think it came out halfway decent for a quick and simple job.

Major assembly complete, seams cleaned, detail restored, and ready for paint. Only a couple of bone-headed mistakes along the way!
