 I made a base using some plastic container that I used as a cast for plaster.

I used some plastruct translucent rod and attached that to a 2mm superbright led:

 Then to light the many lights in the hull, I used led strip lights that I got from TSDS

To illuminate the cockpit I put a green led in the instrument panel:
