Having built more than I can remember, Moebius Jupiter 2 kits with full interiors and working hatches for myself and clients, I wanted a build for myself that was what I saw in the episodes. I personally didn't need the full interior, I wanted a 18" diameter "HERO" version of the ship.
Here's what I did...
I filled in and sanded smooth the exterior hatch(there was no hatch on the actual 4' filming miniature).
The upper bubble has an actual scanner that spins in unison with the mechanical engine lights.
A mechanical Engine core...6 lights spaced sixty degrees apart that spin(along with the scanner in the upper bubble) at any speed I wish via a potentiometer.(Note, you cannot get the correct effect with any commercially available light kit).
Removable "Hero" Landing gear...the gear will eventually be able to retract when I have the time!
A faux interior with figures per the Derelict episode.
Flat aluminum exterior finish, airbrushed.
Rigged for "flying".

Thanks!

Holy smokes! You really did an awesome job on this. Looks just like the filming miniature.
I guess practice really does make perfect. Your work is inspirational.
