Here I will share a project I've been working on. I've shared this with Blake. I've taken the Hoth Rebel Base diorama set and will create a diorama of the Millennium Falcon and some X-Wings escorting a Rebel Transport. The vacuform base and such will get trashed. The ridiculous Y-Wings won't be used as they were obviously designed without reference material, and the Snowspeeders of course will not be used.

Here I will provide posts I've made to my Tumblr modeling feed.

0402 SMDs from HDAModelworx.com! Actually, since shipping from America is completely ridonk, I've had to buy those from AliExpress instead, which is actually quite a bit cheaper.

The difficult part was drilling holes through the X-Wing's engines, since they come completely solid. I found that it's easier to aim for the middle with a tiny drill bit, then use that hole as a guide to expand to a bigger drill bit.

After posting this, I saw down below in the "similar threads" that a user on here was busy with this same kit as well. Here is the thread. He actually improved the Y-Wings a bit, but still the noses are way too wide.

Right now I haven't progressed with this project because I decided to add one more X-Wing. I'm glad I videoed the process because I can re-watch and remind myself how I did the modifications.

You've got some really clever LED work in here. I love the Zip tie use.
I had to zoom in on the original picture an embarrassing amount to realize what Y-Wings you were talking about, lol.

Yeah, the Y-Wings are completely irredeemable. I've seen some people try to hack them up and salvage them, but the shape and contours are just all wrong. I got the idea of using a zip tie from Dorobou Hige. He used a smaller one for lighting the Bandai 1:350 Falcon kit for Model Graphix magazine years ago when it first came out. I'm lucky it was a perfect fit!
