Good evening all.
For the next project I thought it was time to jump on to the Star Wars bandwagon.
I have this template, that I've had for a long time but never got around to build.
The only instructions are a few CAD drawings for the sub-assemblies, so it will be a challenge.
Add to that, this model was not designed with a detailed cockpit, only a blacked out canopy.
In my inventory is a template for a MF cockpit interior. It was originally designed for use with the Finemolds MF .
I believe I can make it work.

MF%20Start_zpstjkxkxbi.jpg

Built up the canopy, cutting out the window areas. Scaled the templates for the interior and proceeded to assemble the interior. After having it 60% built, dry fitted it to the canopy and it was too small. So back to the computer and rescale it again. This time it was a proper fit.
Now a new problem arose. The canopy was too long. Checking the specs for the millennium falcon, yes it was too long and narrow at the front.
Imported this piece into my design software and proceeded to redesign it. This time also coloured the interior to match the cockpit assembly.
The result is more inscale and fits the interior much better.

Some pics of the original canopy with the interior and the tunnel.

Still have to design the chairs for the interior, but this is where I am at tonight.

Thank you for following.

Good evening all.
Time for an update.
Spent yesterday building chairs for the interior.
For the pilot and co-pilot chairs I used a template from another model that had the hiback buckets that were needed. Just needed to resize and recolour them for this application.

Now for the passenger seats, I found a 3D CAD drawing, and was able to get measurements from. Then rescale for this application. I proceeded to build the chairs.

Today the chairs and their seat pads were painted. Tonight the pads were glued to the chairs.

Now these just need to be installed into the cockpit.

Thank you for following.
Comments and questions welcome.

And here we go again with yet another super detailed miniature build. Custom scaled and tweaked to boot. Looking great Jim!

Is that an X-Wing canopy I see on the sheet? :D

Thank you Hagoth.

It's just the parts for the Falcon.
I do have a template for an X-Wing.

Jim

Not that it will affect my viewership , but what scale is this at ?

Thanks , Jim

Uru

I'm thinking this model is about 1/100.
The original templates were for an A3 size sheet, with no scale given and I reduced them by 49% to fit letter size.

Good day all.
Last weekend for me was very productive on the modeling front.
The chairs were installed into the cockpit. Added the tillers and the control levers to the console.

The canopy was then glued into place to the tunnel.

The finished Cockpit was then installed into the Canopy, and the back part of the tunnel added.

The window frames on the canopy were stiffened with CA to give them more support.

With the Cockpit finished, it was time to start on the Left Mandible of the fuselage. I really like the detail here but it does turn into a greebly fest. All the greebles have to be built and installed. Just for this section there are over a 100 greebles. Almost like a ship build.

There is a conduit that runs along the top edge, above the surface. It was stiffened with CA, but still wanted to bow in. I ended up installing a small block support in the middle. That is a long run for a conduit without support anyway.
These are the finished pics of the Left Mandible.

Now on to the other Mandible.

;D

Very cool as always , Jim .

Have you ever used something else to stiffen the paper other than CA ?

Uru

Thank you Uru.
For anywhere where you can not add backing support, CA works the best, and when you apply it to the back of a piece it does not stain the paper.

Jim

Very impressive as usual Jim.

Is CA an abbreviation for the chemical name for super glue?

Cyanoacrylate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyanoacrylate ( Really interesting history and chemistry -- wish it explained in detail the baking soda reaction )

Cheers

Time for an update on the Millennium Falcon.
In between shopping and everything else with the upcoming Christmas Season, been trying to fit some build time in.
I have been working on the right mandible.
The main inset for the side of the mandible is complete.

Right%20Mandible%201_zpsokwfbyoo.jpg

No major issues with any of the pieces, other than verifying their locations.
This was then installed, as were the four engineering inserts on the mandible. Orienting these is always an issue. Using best guess to line them up with the conduits.

Right%20Mandible%202_zpsa8bnfbra.jpg

And keep on building greeblies.

Right%20Mandible%207_zpskyv7bjb7.jpg

As with the left side, had to install a support in the centre of that floating conduit on top.

Right%20Mandible%208_zps738vggs7.jpg

Still have some greeblies to build and install.

I thought I would take what sections of the Falcon I have and place them together to give a bit of a preview of what I have so far.

Still lots of work to do.

Thank you for following.

;D

Yep . Starting to look familiar .

Are you going to do a paper Han and paper Chewbacca too ? ;D
