Having recovered from my Spitfire debacle I have bounced back and start working on a 1/72 Me262 from Airfix. First time doing mottling. I did two light coats of the green, did the mottling and them dusted it with the green again.

Looking good. Is that elastic putty any different than silly putty?

Not too different. The surface is glossy. it stuck to my cutting mat and some paper towel, but came off the model super easy. I was using sticky tack, like the stuff you use to hang posters?
