Jagdturret

She needs way more power .

So she gets the Maybach HL 288 K , 28.8 Liter supercharged ( roots-type ) fuel injected ( cause why not - we need a shorter set-up vs carbs )

This necessitates the air cleaners be moved to the aft bulkhead so the engine hatch now incorporates the new cast intake plenum

20160406_235258_zpsdpq5r7sg.jpg

The exhaust pipes will be rerouted to the right and the air--cleaners will be mounted left , with the infantry phone mounted beneath

The hull needs some minor touch-ups and then the PE for the engine deck and a couple of latches on the forward deck .

The turret can still rotate fully :

I'm putting her in Prague , April 1946
France is still occupied
Operation Barbarossa didn't happen
Hitler is dead
The Wehrmacht has split into two rival armies
& Harry Lillis Crosby is President of the United States

Ciao

She's also getting this 1500 lb stick of 1" wall square-stock welded to the bow :

So I'm tidying up this morning , sorting unused parts into the spares bin and getting the PE that's actually being used on this one sorted and - OH YEAH . .. that MG ::)

This AA mount and MG 42 are provided for the engine deck .
The figure is not included but whatever ...

But as you can see in the pic , the MG has no butt
???

20160409_095459_zpstlfsq4er.jpg

The lower MG 34 is from the Panther G that I robbed the cupola from.

Why no butt-stock , Tamiya ?
I noticed it early on and inspected the sprues closely , though I've never seen them separated in a kit . What would be the point . ?

I'm thinking about mounting it with a shield up top on the cupola ring so I guess I'll steal the 34's stock or just make one out of Aves :p

Strange , No ?

I actually noticed as soon as I removed it from the sprue .
Thinking " WTH Keith - you cut the stock off ?? !! " but nope .

Ciao

Interesting ???

The only pics of it in the only book of it I own :

No there either

Need More Info !

;D
I find out answer . Maybe :p

The MG is taken from the bow gunner so it has no shoulder stock to begin with --or maybe not

Here is the Armorama thread I used : http://armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=246474&page=1

.. ongoing

Some PE

The Voyager screens are marginally better than the Tamiya examples .
The weave detail is arguably more defined . . - plus they give you the tiny hex-heads @the corners .
... and the borders are heavier ..

Placing the tiny hex-heads would have been about impossible without this pick-up stick :

I've made ad hoc versions before and seen packs of similar, disposables at Hobby Lobby , but this thing has the perfect , consistent tack needed .

Got it from HLJ when they first offered them : http://www.hlj.com/product/TDN09000/Sup

Aloha !

Cracking stuff great work work on the conversion would be a killer if it was a real panzer

Update picks for the :

STURMSCHILDKROTE

I'm still deciding whether to add borders with a medium green ( Vallejo 074 ) to the grey and yellow :-\

20160414_115559_zps0bzmrvgo.jpg
20160414_115615_zpshgr5liai.jpg20160414_120004_zpscujv6dkh.jpg20160414_120022_zpsmv7c7rm7.jpg

Most of the construction remains at the rear : fenders , air filters and trunks to the intake plenum , redirected exhaust pipes and the call-box and phone for the infantry

20160414_115824_zps2pql0o2k.jpg

and the front 'bumper' needs to be 'welded' on + additional plates to protect the track , plus the chain apron ;D

20160414_120053_zpsgrb9rmq8.jpg

Then lots of impact marks up front from 50 mm , 75 , mm , heavy MG etc .
plus char-marks and all the goodness reaped by a breakthrough tank fighting in the city center ;D

I still need to attach all the tools and spare track pairs ( she'll need them ) ... possibly omitting the gun barrel cleaning rods ,, maybe they're carried by support vehicles ..
Keeping the front half free of any stowage since it would just be shot to pieces and rendered unusable ;)

Here's what I need to find room for --
2 tow cables ( replacing the kit's plastic cables with wire rope )
Track rope ( probably using the kit part unchanged )
Hand tools , duplex cable hooks
... the jack already has a place at the bottom of the rear bulkhead ..

The MG will not be used -- most likely put a 37 mm round thru the mounting ring atop the cupola ;D
--- lots of smaller impact marks up higher on the turret front , since the opposition will undoubtedly be aiming at the periscope for the main gun

20160411_225602_zps2ezehtta.jpg

It doesn't look like much , but I only have the rear side-quarters and maybe some of the engine deck for stowage .

She gets some stand-off skirting also , so I need to at least fabricate the frame for it before I can place the spare track etc .
Oh yeah ::) -- she also gets a rack of S-mine launchers in the 'bustle' between the tail end of the counter-weight plates .

Comments , questions and straight-up derision always welcome 8)

Ciao

Thanks , Q

I don't think I'm adding anymore to the camo pattern .
IMO it looks pretty right as it is . Looking very German .

So time to shoot it up & dirty it down ;D

Very cool build. You've put a lot of hard work into the build and you have a unique model because of this - excellent work! The camo reminds me of some of the night-time camo I've seen on 'What-if' machines (and which I'm a big fan of).

Look forward to seeing the weathering :D

Thank you much , AJay ;D

I'm not familiar with night camo for AFV s
But that gives me a reason for it now ;)

I had initially planned an urban camo for it -- before I even started building -- but it just wasn't jiving in my head :p

Then as I was building and developing her back story , I was thinking they'd probably not even bother with camo .
But it looked too boring , and since this is meant to be fun to look at and not a historical representation I decided to dandy it up .

I'm liking what I've got . But .
I'm really wanting to add some blue -- just for interest ,, but the night camo idea is a great "technical" reason . 8)

I figure you'd only be attempting to hide it from aircraft .

While I'm working on the hardware for the bow and stern , I'm needing to decide if the camo is done or not .
Hoping to start on the supports for the side skirting this weekend so I need to make up my mind .
I'm ready to get going on the battle damage and weathering myself ;D

Been playing with some strips painted as desired ( Vallejo dark blue 053 )
... it would go down in the same soft-edge fashion but more narrow like these strips :

20160416_135201_zpsle9bxypj.jpg20160416_135828_zps9vb5g7pd.jpg
Tell me what you think , please
You and anyone else with an opinion ;)

Ciao

I kind of like the camo as you already have it in the last photo you posted as it has quite a twilight-type 'feel'

Well ;D . It looks like you posted that while I was doing it .

I decided late last night , after looking at it in dim lighting .
.. low light and without my glasses .
Perfect ::)

I think I liked it better before - as I suspected :p But I'm not changing it ;)

Here it be :

I think the only thing that's bugging me ( for now ) is the very aft blue ,, too wide .
-- might address . Whatever ;D
The beating and weathering should cure a lot of my objections ,, hopefully .

I've been practicing creating shell impact damage on scrap and I'm anxious to get to it !

AJay ,
I see you have a Super Pershing on the bench :)
I really like that thing - and had ordered one ( the Tamiya kit ) but cancelled it . I'm not buying any more kits until I invest in a decent photo " studio " set-up . Sick of struggling with this phone :(

Plus ,,, I got cool kits already .. . . that NEED to get built

This will be my next armor project --
I've had it a couple of years -- -since it's release , so something like that :

Can't Wait  Track building heaven ( or hell :-\ )

Narrowed down that aft line -- it was really bugging me

I can hear that supercharged 28 liter V12 - - - - echoing off the buildings ..
The broken shop window glass rattling ...
The squad leader's voice yelling over the engine into the sound-powered phone
random ricochets skipping past 8)

I was astounded to find that I didn't really have any figures that would work well for this dio ( tank crews out the yangZu .. ::) WTH , Keith ? ) so I ordered a couple of sets just for .

They should ship out tomorrow

They'll take a few mods , but they'll be WAY less work than trying to adapt what I have on hand :p

Add the blower chain-drive and air intake noises to this lovely ness in your head ;D

starts up at 51 sec mark ,, ( tried to post vid to start then , but ? ??? ) --> https://youtu.be/4bq73voK5dA?t=51
