I believe this right place for this.
While lurking and then joining after some time, I'd like
to step it up a notch here.

Kolja, in his WIP, "the first in,well, way too long", said
that he was posting pictures from an iPhone. Fantastic by
the way.

Would someone hook a brother up? How many others
go this route? Lighting? Same as a regular camera?
Lotsa, questions. Will be eternally grateful.
Thanks,Dave aka. Peppy

Hi and welcome.

I know TRM has used an iphone for a few things. I haven't but I'm sure you'll find some help here.

I would think that, like all cameras, light is good. It's just about getting enough and not too much.

Thanks Scott,

I check into a couple sites like photobucket and picasa,
I am not sure which would suit me best. Lotsa' questions
Boss, and hopefully help someone else in the short term.

Btw. The site and the 'Herd' is the 'da bomb, eh?

i have an Iphone4 and pic Quality is ok until i Zomm, but to answer your Question Ligting is the main factor for taking pictures, having a dedicated Area setup for this task will help .

oh and the iPhone 4s has a better camera than the iPhone 4.

Iphone is not the Same as a regular camera you have more control with a regular camera. like iso white balance exposure and so on,

hope this is of some help to you

Why, yes it does Spud,
While I got a 4s in an upgrade to a phone plan I have
for work, I thought they were pretty much the same. All
new to me.
Any suggestions for a host? Is that the word I am looking
for. To bounce the photos here. Put in the phone as
an app.? Or run it thru the home computer?

I have an iPhone 4; the pictures aren't PERFECT (for one thing, the auto focus frequently likes to center itself on the cutting mat - I may put something blank, like a paper towel, under what I'm taking pictures of next time. Perhaps the camera likes the grid on the mat.

Anywhoo, I just use the workshop lighting - if it's bright enough for me to work on, it's bright enough for documenting 'howgozit.' I don't sweat white balance or any of that.

I go this route, because it just makes it easy to document the project and post as I go along. Before I would use the DSLR and then upload... call me lazy, but it got tedious. This is quick. I host at photobucket, which provides an email right into your 'parent' directory. So I shoot, email it to photobucket right from the phone, and when I'm ready to post, I open up PB, move pictures into the project album, copy the tag, and off I go.

Almost all of my photos are done with my iPhone 4, with exception to my final entry shots, which were done with a 12megapixel camera.

I use photobucket to dump all my photos in. It's free and works pretty well.

Regards.

you can get an app for photobucket, But you cant beat a dslr for image Quality.

Yeah...like spud said there is an app for Photobucket...I use an iTouch and when I am in a rush, I'll take pics and post from here...but quality of them is usually lower...

Forgot to mention that for MOST of the final product pictures (aside from a couple teasers for no other reason than to show off as soon as I'm done ;D) I use a DSLR; usually outside in sunlight (which was admittedly easier in Nevada than up here in the Puget Sound...)

over cast days are better because you have a big ass natural light box ;D and if you come to Ireland you will have that 95% of the year :)

Good evening everyone.
@ Kolja, saying that you'd taken with an iPhone is what got
me started in the first place. I think they are very good photos.
A bullseye on the mat might be a good idea?
They look great on an iPhone or Pod screen that I have been
viewing them on. Great build also.
@ Beobachtungsbereich
A more upscale camera is in the plans for the future for
certain. I am going to have to 'play what I brought' for
right now.
@ Jeeves
I believe I am going to give Picasa a try 1st. No particular
reason. We'll see what happens.
@ Spud
I would love to photograph just about anything, in the
Emerald Isles, overcast or not.
I'd heard photographing inside an open garage door
on a partially cloudy day is ideal lighting. Any truth to
that?
I'd like to Thank You Gentlemen, for pointing me in the
right direction. I get some time later in the week here
we'll see what kind of damage I can do.

I'"ve found my Samsung Galaxy takes a far better picture of scale models than either of my digital cameras. The macro function works realy well and it always seems to get the lighting right, where as with my digital cameras the flash either bounces of everything or if I turn it off the pics are too dark

Thanks Rookie,
Is that mainly for photos for yourself? Or can you upload
pictures from that also?

Hi Peppy ,I transfer them to my PC them upload via photo bucket. Scott posted a video on how to do it in the FAQ section I think

Have you tried just emailing them to photobucket right from your phone? Seems like it would save you a little time; though admittedly you would have to log into PB and move them to whatever album you wanted (email uploads just dump it in your root album).

Yeah I do that sometimes but I just change my root album to were I want them to go before uploading ;D

Evening everyone,
Thanks again for the suggestions here.
I have taken a couple pix to get me started and on the
camera/phone they look passable. Getting the time to goof
around with the rest of it we will soon see.
And yeah Rookie, I did see Scott's posting for the uploads.
I get the 'Bozo the Clown' award for the week on that.
Read that before, forgot what I read, then reread it and went
geez what a goof. Lol. With everyone's guidence I promise
to pull it all together.
I am promising by mid-week, fruits. Till then...
