One of the projects I did while away from the site was a side by side of the Tamiya F-14a and the AMK F-14D. Both are excellent kits. The AMK falls short though due to a nasty join between the fuselage and the nose. Something a high end kit should not suffer from. Otherwise, great kit.
The Tamiya has no flaws really. I used after market decals and a resin boat tail and chin pod and proper gun port to do a correct plane from the very first operational mission for the 14, Frequent Wind.
The F-14 is technically a Viet Nam plane. It flew combat cover during the evacuation of Saigon, the next to last mission of Nam. Brownie points if you know the last. I call this one a Wind Cat in honor of that. It is modeled with the load out carried on those missions.
