Mmmm, try saying that after a few beers!

Anyways, I recently stalled on the 1/3 AFS build after being at it, on and off, for about 3 months. I found I was getting builders' block when it came to ideas on how to progress so thought I'd have a break and start in on another one of my wish list builds. So, here are some links and WIPs to tickle the modelling taste buds:-

The build is based on this fan design from the above mentioned site: http://www.geocities.jp/yxdbp846/tani.jpg

Got an Easter egg container off an aborted Ma.K comp entry and cut out the cockpit hatch:

Recycled a broken toy from my son's collection for the cockpit seat, added some parts from a Kenner Slave 1 toy, a few other bits and bobs to create a core shape for the model:
http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/ad39/Noddy4000/Fan%20Design%20MaK%20AG%20Single%20Seat%20Fighter%201/MaKFanDesignSingleSeatAGFighter003.jpg
http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/ad39/Noddy4000/Fan%20Design%20MaK%20AG%20Single%20Seat%20Fighter%201/MaKFanDesignSingleSeatAGFighter008.jpg
I used parts from an old Esci 1/12 F16 cockpit display for the instruments, plus a panel from a broken WALL.E toy for the space behind the seat. The head rest is also from Bobba's Slave 1:

With the egg part in place:

The F16 front panel with some greeblies:

The body is starting to come together now with the addition of some various bits and pieces glued with a hot glue gun:
MaKFanDesignSingleSeatAGFighter023.jpg

Few more bits to pad it out:

The yellow part is the rocket launcher from the Slave toy, inserted into some ABS pipe from a donor vacuum cleaner, which is attached in turn to a bit of plumbing pipe and half of a broken plastic ice cream scoop. There's also the body halves from an Olympus digi camera, a deodorant container, a toy melon, the core structure from the Slave 1, cap from a baby bottle...or something similar - I forget now - and a toy skip my son doesn't know is missing...heh heh ;D...yet.

I've then packed out all voids with paper scrap and then gone over that with air drying clay:

I've then coated the whole model in a 2mm skin of Milliput to help blend all the donor parts together and to give me a decent surface to do detailing on:

After much sanding it's looking the part:

First coat of primer to help show up irregularities in the epoxy skin:
http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/ad39/Noddy4000/Fan%20Design%20MaK%20AG%20Single%20Seat%20Fighter%201/MaKFanDesignSingleSeatAGFighter020-1.jpg

That was sanded back so that almost all of the red primer was gone. There are still some defects but I want to use them as wear and tear, dings and dents from use in the field. I've penned in panel lines on top of a grey primer coat (I had to brush coat this one as I've run out of spray stuff and...er, money to buy more . Bum.

Will crack on later this week once I've got new supplies. Some of the panel lines will be removed and some put in a different place before I start scribing them in. Going to do a fairly spartan riveting of each panel as too many will make the whole thing look like the Victorians built it! :D Lots of greeblies to go on this. I've also changed the design for the engine cans. Have scrapped the B wing donor ones and scratched a couple of new ones. More to be done on these too before they can be fitted.

Thanks for looking, guys. C+C always gladly received.
Noddy.

Clever build.
The cockpit looks amazing.
If you paint it like the illustration, it'll be awesome.

Insanely cool. Wish I had the dedication to scratch build like that. Looking forward to the finished work.

;D Cheers guys! Glad you like it. It's been on my want to do list for ages and as I was stalled on my other builds I thought I'd grab the chance and go for it.

I've done a bit more to this including changing my mind again (just this afternoon) about how to do the engines. Going to go foe just a single one, mounted centrally and with control vanes mounted either side. Something like that anyway. Some more WIPs for you:

I've re-scribed some of the panel lines and still need to touch up several where there's a slight wobble visible. I'm fairly happy with what is after all only the second ever attempt at scribing a whole model. Practice makes perfect. ;)

I'm now working on the housing for the engine can which will also get rid of the nice big holes at the back of the model, and some feet foe the articulated landing gear. Also added a small domed, Milliput housing further down on the curved hatch cover with a couple of camera/sensor units shaped into the front end. I simply wetted the end of a 2.5/3mm styrene tube and pressed it in to achieve the look. Will get some updated WIPS asap.

:)Thanks very much folks! Finally got something to update this thread with! Got some rattle can spray paint the other day which will be fine as a base coat for the camo'. I also finished the engine shroud and the rivet detailing so it was time to get some colour on this build.

Shot showing the side of the weapon pod and the detail panel I made to sit in the recess. The pipes and hoses will plug into various parts etc, some of which still need to be attached:

Rear of the fighter. Got some detailing on the engine shroud already but want to add a couple more:
MaKFanDesignWithStartofCamo005.jpg

I'm going to put some kind of control surfaces rig on the bump sticking out behind the cockpit area.
Angled shot which I hoped would help show the panel lines and rivets I so lovingly scribed...but doesn't:

Last shot from overhead to show the various lumps of this machine:

More on this soon guys. Feel able to crack on with this and a couple of other builds so I'll try to make as much progress as I can before the next bug hits me :). Enjoy.

Wow.

I'm a much bigger fan of the MaK ships than the suits. This is very cool and awesome progress pictures too.
