1/72 Scale Darth Vader's TIE Fighter. This is the last of my TIE fighter builds. I am really burnt out
from trying to stuff all the small parts into the little round ball of a cockpit. I did my interpretation of
the lighted hyperdrive. I didn't weather this model as much as the others, I couldn't imagine being
the ground crew member who would neglect cleaning Darth's personal vehicle. Trying to stuff the wiring
for 4 ION engines into the ball turned out to be a challenge. In the end I think it turned out OK. I ended
up scribbing the panel lines after priming and painting instead of using a wash to help better define them.
I used my trusty Dremel to drill and thin certain areas of the cockpit.
I created a resin block to encase and diffuse the hyperdrive lighting.
Mounted the SMD's for the ION engines in the ball.
I used cotton and primed it black to do the interior light blocking.
Tested cockpit lighting
Vader on a stick
Assembled ball
Painted panels black and started masking.
Primed and highlighted assembled model.
Removed mask. Panels really turned out crisp.
Started base
I had to make a new ION engine exhaust out of styrene. While doing airbrushing one blew off and fell on the carpeted floor. The parts are so small it was instantly lost.
Mask for base.
Finished.
