Dark Angels GW minis

OK started the next squad, decided to hold fire on my dreadnought and characters until i have got a little more practice under my belt using these GW paints.

Next up is a small 5 man assault squad, i'm going to try using a slightly different system this time so i expect them to look a little different to the first squad but this is all a learning curve for me and a chance to try new ways to paint them up so its all good.

Got them built, undercoated and base coated...

I saw a nice youtube vid on painting power swords which i may give a try out also.

Been a busy few weeks at work so not had too much time to model but ive managed to finish the assault squad.

I'm quite pleased with the final results, as you can see ive still not based them yet as im torn between making my gaming table an urban map or a dessert map!

The colours in the pictures dont look quite right, i think its the flash on my camera phone....wish i had a decent camera but thats a luxury i can afford atm.

Heres a few pics without the flash....

I did intend to try a nice power sword effect but i'm sorry to say my skills at wet blending are some what lacking so went with a regular metal blade in the end, also i'm developing a real hatred of painting flesh.....i just dont get a result i feel happy with but i think this effort is better than the simple ink wash i gave the Tactical Sergeant.

These guys had their first taste of combat at my local club last night and won the game for me buy capturing an objective, eliminating a whole enemy squad and getting the Line Breaker objective.....so all in all im quite happy with them lol

Next is maybe some Terminators or maybe some Company Vets.......or *hushed tones* maybe some Orks! :p

Started my Deathwing Terminators this week, cant say i like the covering properties of the Citadel layer level paints.....had to go over the large areas of armour about 4 times to get a decent layer of colour.

Can anyone suggest another good alternative to the Citadel paints that are acrylics and similar colour ranges.

Undercoated and first ink wash.....love the amount of detail on these figures and these are just the plastic models from the Dark Vengeance starter set!

Really must get round to sort out what style of base i want with this army.

Went to the local GW store today for a tutorial in using Greenstuff, the GW two part putty, i want to make some of my company veterans look more like the Black Templar style of robes rather than the DA version which wear full robes....they just remind me of Jedi Knights or someone wearing a bath robe! lol

After a few hours i ended up with these.....decided to use older models for the practice, i'm quite happy with the end result as its my first crack at sculpting.

Going to enter this guy into the local GW stores monthly painting competition just for the laugh as a beginner.....any thoughts on how to improve the base is welcomed as this was all new to me.

Think i'm going to base the whole army in the same style as the base i did for the in store competition.
Land Raider or Ravenwing next i think.

Heres a few more models i've finished recently......i've been trying a different style for the Marines, i had a try at edge highlights as thats the way most people seem to paint SM's but i'm undecided which style i prefer more...zenithal highlights or edge highlights! ::)

Next plan is to try zenithal highlights with an air brush.....but i want to try Vallejo paints so need to work out equivalent paints.

Looks great! I've been collecting some more figures to add to my Warhammer 40K statsh, but still reluctant to attempt painting them after my first failed attempt. Yours truly look great and keep up the good work.

Thanks mate, i'm still very new to mini painting....best answer i think is just have a go and have fun, its all just down to practice i think.

If you have any metal minis try painting them....its soooo easy to strip paint off the metal minis if you make a mistake, i found it the best way to practice.....that and watch YouTube as theres many awesome channels for beginning painting.
