Hi folks,

i am Alex from Germany and i came via Youtube to this forums.
Great site! Lets kick it!

1-vi.jpg

XXIII with towing gear installations on Display in Brest/France.

DSC03076Medium-vi.jpg

Archer has some rivet detail dry transfers. Came in pretty handy to ad some more
depth to the deck detail.

DSC03079Medium-vi.jpg

Riveting finished.

DSC03117Medium-vi.jpg

I decided to make some conversions according to those at the XXIII on
Display in Brest/France.

DSC03094Medium-vi.jpg

Scratch built towing gear with internal release mechanism.

Here we have another picture, leading us directly to some other
conversion as seen on the midgets.
The presicope has received a streamline cowling for stability and
noise reduction.

ment_large_featured_borderless-vi.jpg

I wanna have that as well! :))

DSC03118Medium-vi.jpg

Yeah, like that....

DSC03119Medium-vi.jpg

makes it more unique, dosnt it?

DSC03102Medium-vi.jpg

Here we have some more extras. For better control and rudder effect
at least one midget had sported these additional "hydrailerons". The rudder
blade now has extra surface providing better maneuverability.
Note the weld seams made of stretched sprue plus Ethylacetate.
Limiters had been attached from spare PE parts. All controls are movable.

In the next update we can fix the turret to the hull.
Again there will be additional weld seams.
And then? Well, and then we can start to paint the first parts, aye?
Nice torpdedozzzzzzzzzzzzz......bhoom! ;D

Thanks for watching!
Cu later in one or two days.
Cheers!

Welcome to SMA!

That is a beautiful looking build. Nice work on the details so far.

I was wondering about the weld beads. Before reading where you said you had made them I was thinking geez, did those beads come molded or did this Guy do them.
The sub is looking great! Very clean build.

Hey guys,

thanks for the kind comments!
Much appreciated! :)

@fumblethumbs
for justice i have to say that kit does come with very nice welding seams.
These are located mainly on the hull´s section joints.
It has some pretty rows of rivets in the bow area as well.
I only added some at the places where the scratch built parts took place.
On the joint to the conning tower/hull will be some more.
I should have pointing this out more clearly.
Cheers, bud!

Hey guys,

this lill sub is an easy build.
Luv that, becuz if you dont have trouble during construction, there is much
motivation for mods and getting wild on the painting stages.
Painting stages!
Thats what this update mainly is about.
So....here we roll...

BroncoSeehundXXVII1Medium-vi.jpg

Tha preps. Trimming the edges, ready to screw.... ::)
Psst! Watch language! ;D

BroncoSeehundXXVII4Medium-vi.jpg

More screws. Well, kinda props actually, responsible for range finding....i guess.

BroncoSeehundXXVII3Medium-vi.jpg

Black gloss TAM X-1 as a gloss primer.

BroncoSeehundXXVII5Medium-vi.jpg

Two different thinners, btw. Right and hand side: Mr color thinner (lacquer based)
Left hand side: Mr color leveling thinner (lacquer based, comprises a retarder)

Black beauties

Alclad II!!! Probably one of the best solutions for all your heavy metal needs.

DSC03185Medium-vi.jpg

Some masking (yellow tape, circle shaped, pretty used already, black on the pic therefore)

DSC03186Medium-vi.jpg

Ok, thats they might have look like fresh from the factory. Needs some weathering
indeed. Later.....

DSC03248Medium-vi.jpg

Weld seams on the conning tower in progress.

DSC03256Medium-vi.jpg

Yeah...guess we can leave it like that.

Great update. Torps look amazing, almost be a shame to weather them :'(. The weld beads have me intrigued. After you lay them in, how do you get the convincing texture??

wow thats a realy cool Build. i love the paint job on the Torps

This is fun to watch. Keep up the good work. What colour Alclad for the torpedos? I use Alclad too but do not have any of the buffable colours.

Hey guys,

sorry for the long absence.
Things went wild in the last few weeks. So much to do.
Well anyway, now at the bench again.

First of all, thanks a lot for all the encouraging and friendly feedbacks!

Lets fire it up again and paint that thing.
What should we paint actually? Lets paint that one. Construction finished.

DSC03119Medium-vi.jpg

DSC03123Medium-vi.jpg

All right. Now to the painting.

DSC03259Medium-vi.jpg

Standard preshading. Always a good base to start from.
Please don´t ask me about that panel below the tower. :) It means nothing.

DSC03261Medium-vi.jpg

Light coat of grey, blending.

DSC03263Medium-vi.jpg

First textures. Off-white streaks applyed vertically.

DSC03264Medium-vi.jpg

Those streaks crack up the monotony pretty well

DSC03268Medium-vi.jpg

A coat of Tamiya clear smoke

DSC03274Medium-vi.jpg

Mottling in off white, simulating light effects, applyed by men as a (fictional) camo.

DSC03276Medium-vi.jpg

DSC03289Medium-vi.jpg

Blending the lower edge of the pattern into the whole picture. First buff streaks applyed.

After a blue oil filter and a layer of clear, time for some markings.
Archer has great stuff for this kinda stuff. :)

DSC03297Medium-vi.jpg

DSC03299Medium-vi.jpg

DSC03301Medium-vi.jpg

Sealed with clear. First washes came in. Brown/black.

DSC03303Medium-vi.jpg

DSC03310Medium-vi.jpg

The usual suspects

All right.
Lets prepare for detail weathering and pigments and stuff like that.
Btw: The torpedos aint done as yet, they´re just kinda prepared for now.
The real trick should be part of the next update.
I hope it works, some tests was promising.

Again, thank you very much for all the friendly comments.
I really do appreciate that.
Take care everybody.
Talk to you soon.

God bless you.

Best

Alex
