Bandai 1/1000 Yamato for SMA contest

Thanks, guys.
I'm actually looking forward to weathering her up now. She looks a little "toy-like" for me right now.

And Ken, I loved it too. :)

Crickey Q..................i blinked and there it was built , nice job with those itsey bitsey guns fella!!! ;D

`Boots`

Thanks.
And I feel about the same, Boots. Figured it might take a couple of weeks, but I was dead wrong.

That is some painful looking detail in those guns. I hope you are going to drill out the barrels ;) ;) ;)

Nice update.

@Hagggiston,
I thought about drilling out the larger barrels, but I may just mark them out in sharpie instead.
Those smaller barrels would basically need to be replaced in order to make them hollow.
I mean, they're .5mm and smaller.

did any of you ever see the 1/350 scale RC yamato kit? i thik it was produced 5 yearsago. it has a remote that controls LEDs and sounds...i really want one but last i saw an unbuilt one on ebay it was $700 :(

No painting was done other than to the Wave Motion Cannon. Any other coloring is either from inks, washes, or drybrushing.

The entire upper deck was given a black wash, followed by drybrushing in silver and a light blue metallic.
The windows throughout the ship were painted in with light blue metallic and the barrels of the larger turrets were piced out with a fine tipped Sharpie..
The main hull panels were drybrushed in black, using a post-it note mask
The inside of the main engine was colored with a red ink.
The Wave Motion Cannon was painted in with a yellow, and then colored with red ink.
Kit base was left stock.

Where did this pop up from :D sweet work and i agree the panel line effect looks great.

Nice work, Q! And, again, You fascinate me with Your speed - I think I didn't have time enought even to blink an eye when this ship has been ready to leave the dock :)
And agree with java - the effect You used on the panels looks excellent!

Excellent work Q, she really has turned out terrific....................gotta agree on those panel lines as well dude..................nailed it!!! ;D

`Boots`

Thanks muchly, guys.

I've used that panel technique before, thought it was definitely the way to go on Yamato.

@Solander,
My speed just comes mostly from trying not to let the build sit for a few days between steps.
That, and the Testor's liquid cement works a LOT faster than it's tubed counterpart.

Wow, very sharp. The weathering rocks, especially when you consider the scale.

Excellent. 8)

Since you bring the TUBE Glue into the picture....

TUBE GLUE is only good to make Icicles in a Winter Diorama !!!

Now that we have Liquid Polystyrene glues... like Tamiya or thin Tamiya or others like Testor "liquid" cement !

That RED Testor "Glue" TUBE is good for the Bin 13 !!!

I would really like Testor to remove that from the market ! truthfully !

Nothing against your build !!! the ship looks nice !!! at first I thought it was the BIG one !!! but you selected the small scale... which is fine... takes less shelf space !

To tell you the whole truth !!! I actually Gave my Bottle of Tamiya Liquid cement to a dude that showed up at my CLUB with a RED TUBE of Testor cement !!! and toss his in the garbage for him !

I told him ! Welcome to the 21 century ! He never looked back !!! and even thanked me for doing him a favour !

They still make the Testors red tube? I remember using that as a kid making star wars and Galactica kits . if i'd glob too much it would start melting parts!!!! and it also turned yellow with age AND it didn't adhere well!!!! ARRRGH!

I only use the tube stuff for big areas, or for battle damage. Mostly for battle damage.

And Norm, if she looks like a bigger kit, then I thank you. Means at least part of the illusion worked
