I finally finished my Asuka resin kit from E2046. It did not come with eye decals, so I hand-painted them. I can't do justice to Sadamoto's signature eye style, but it's passable. I see some people who can pull off gradations and I could do that just a bit, but I cannot do the seamless blending that some can. The thing about doing figure garage kits is that it doesn't matter how well you did painting a figure if you screw the eyes up. If the eyes look like crap, the whole figure is gonna look bad.

Nice finish! And yes, nice job on her eyes.
Years ago, an anime modeler I followed, Cody Kwok, had a page on painting eyes in one of his tutorials on painting figures, and that helped a lot. The page is still available at https://codyscoop.com/ht-eyes.html, though his images are no longer available.
As with anything, it takes practice. But you get nowhere without practice.

Yes, I know his website. I have no idea why his images got botched like that. If he is paying money for his own domain (like I am), I'd think he would make it a priority to get that fixed. I know I would!

Don't fret the eyes, Greg, it's a continuous learning process for me, too. You are correct, if the eyes are not just right it will be noticed immediately since we usually focus there first. Great blending of the yellow tones and shadows, btw.
