For a quick little weekend project, I decided to do a 'side by side' build of both of Bandai's "First Order" TIE Fighter kits from "The Force Awakens"

Start with a quick look at the sprues from the regular TIE

Then, a look at the contents for the "Special Forces" version

Started with the cockpits.
I painted the interiors with Vallejo light grey primer, followed by a black wash.
The pilots were drybrushed with gunmetal

With the cockpits built, the main sections were buttoned up.
The only exterior painting was done on the Special Forces version, where I painted in the thrusters with gunmetal

Built up the panels kit stock, then gave the black parts of the entire model a drubrush of gunmetal to bring out detail since my normal wash wouldn't show on the black plastic.

I must admit, it is tempting to build some Bandai stuff as is and just matte coat them. I almost did that with parts of the Yamato kits I am building

Nice to see the comparison shots with the original ties

Thanks for the comments, guys.
Definitely quick and fun buildups

After building, I had to see how they looks with the older ones
