More like an armful of Chargers....

MPCStreetChargers-1-16th_zpsbe58dd3c.jpg

My wife and kids so thoughfully gave me these kits for Christmas. (I dropped enough hints...). I plan to build both kits for the Group 25 Car Model Builder's Contest/Show in Toronto taking place on September 21st/2013.

Both will be quite different to each other: The first one will be Painted in Model Master Lacquer Mopar "Green-Go" with matching coloured bumpers, black grill, black RT body and hood stripes and black interior. There will be no chrome on the side pipes or wheels. (The chrome will be replaced by Anodized finish of Tamiya Clear Green over an Aluminium Base Coat). It will have a jacked up rear end with fat tires.

The second one will be more of a milder street rod. It will be painted with Testors One Coat Lacquer "Purple-Licious" with chrome accessories (Front and Rear bumpers, Side Pipes, Wheels). The car will have a more normal stance with tires and wheeles from the General Lee Charger Kit (which I purchased only the tires and wheels from an Ebay vendor..) It will be equipped with a White Vinyl roof made from Masking Tape and white interior with black floor and dash.

I will send pictures as the build progresses....

General Martok....

P.S. As the Klingon in the muscle car said to the Romulan soccer mom in the minivan at the stoplight...IT IS A GOOD DAY TO DRIVE!!

Thank you sir... I have already started on the engines. Will post those pictures in the next couple of days. ;D

After a couple weeks, here is the latest progress;

Both bodies painted & polished. For the Green Charger, I used Model Master Green-Go Lacquer decanted for airbrush. Polished with Meguiar's Scratch X & Turtle Wax. No clearcoat added. Black stripes on the rear panel masked and painted with Model Master Flat Black Acryl. Interior still needs to be painted Semi Gloss Black. Bare Metal Foil & Windows will be added near final assembly.

For the Purple Charger, Testor's One Coat Purple-Licious Lacquer was decanted and applied with the airbrush. Testor's One Coat Wet Look Clear was used as the clearcoat and polished as well with Meguiar's and Turtle Wax. Vinyl Roof was added with masking tape and painted with Tamiya White Primer. Bare Metal accents on the roof and body will be added towards the end.

Next post will be with the engines fully wired. Stay tuned & thanks for reading... ;D

Sweet building one too! Great model, But I'm going to get a resin bug catcher, and the wheels on the tree are not too great, looking at resin one too. I can't wait to see these built. Using any high impact colors?

very cool looking so far, man the belts on the superchargers looks so real.

Didn't use the hi-impact colours, but the Model Master Purplelicous has a nice metalflake sheen to it under the clearcoat. The green is simply a high gloss solid green.

I found a good article on the net building the Street Charger.

http://www.modelersite.com/Dic2012/TheBest/English/Dodge-charger_eng.htm

But it requires you purchasing the article and downloading to your computer. I did and I found it to be very good, I am using some the techniques the person used on his Charger. On the site, there are more article to purchase on various models (Cars, Planes, Motocycles, Armour, Sci Fi). I have purchased several of them and they are all great reference materal.

Currently wiring the engines, will post picks shortly when I am done..... :D
