I recently purchased an Italeri 1/720 scale USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier, and for the life of me I don't know why they did not scale it to standard 1/700. Anyway I am wanting to add some photoetch rails and details to this along with a full compliment of aircraft. Has anyone used 1/700 scale photoetch on ships in 1/720 scale? I am worried about the scale difference. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks

Hey there Noc,

While they are of different scales, if you are just going to do PE railing, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

When you work it out, 12 inches at 1/720, works out to 0.01667 inches (0.423mm), while 12" at 1/700 works out to 0.0171" (0.435mm).

So if you figure a ships railing would be what? 48" high? At 1/720 you are looking at 0.0667" (1.69mm) at 1/700, 0.0686" (1.74mm), a difference of 0.0019" in height (0.048mm).

Hardly anything you are going to see or measure without a micrometer!
