Well, I discovered something. Hasegawa evidently has two sets of 1/72 F4s. An older tool (60s or 70s) that isnt really all that. And a newer much nicer tooling from the 90s. Well, I was unaware of that. I purchased this kit at our local IPMS meeting for our annual build the same kit contest. The club supplies the kits in 72, 48 and 32. Build them (or any other kit of the same subject) and bring them in to the Dec meeting. If you bring in the kit you bought from the club, they reimburse you. Very nice.
Sooooo, I have determined I WILL build this kit and make it look nice. Seams and gaps or not. BUT, it seems I will be doing so without it having control panels or sticks. Yep, as you can see in the pic of the directions, Hasegawa felt these thing to be superfluous. And here is where I discovered something else. The really nice PE set from Eduard for the 1/72 Hasegawa F-4E is for the newer tool kit. Which makes sense IF YOU KNOW there are different tooled kits still being boxed AT THE SAME TIME. The PE does not fit the kit I have. I did manage to cut it up and use it for the side panels. Not the main control panels though. Not enough space.
And, since I am indeed a numb nut, I managed to delete the pics I took of the ejection seats and cockpit I took before I put the canopy on. *sigh* Trust me, it looks good! ;D
So here are the pics of it built up so far showing the ill fit.
So its a challenge. I think this will make me appreciate the Academy kit when I get to doing the Good Evening Da Nang boxing.
