im a hardcore RC airplane guy with giant scale B-17 with wingspans over 10ft but i still love to sit down and build models. well im wanting to a display showing the evolution of the boeing b-17 flying fortress. im using a mixs of academy revell and hasegawa kits. i chose 1/72 scale because i could get a hold of b-17 B through D models easly, the E model was a little more rare and the F and G models are everywhere. i currently have academy b-17's B through E models

This is going to be micro scale for you. So when you say a progression, do you mean one of each model or?

Looking forward to it whatever it is, love that plane.

I like this idea crazy but great. I will most defiantly watching these builds

i just scored a old mpc b-17 kit that i may build separate i know some people old collect kits. i dont there for building then looking. im currently waiting on some photo etched detail parts, but in the mean time here's a picture of my big models

Revell's old 1/72 B-17 was variously labelled a -E or a -F, depending on the livery, and sometimes even with the same livery (I think there are different boxings of the "Memphis Belle" for both marks). I think that it's more accurately a -F. If I'm not mistaken, it's still in the Revell-Monogram catalog, but if it isn't, you can find it easily enough on eBay. And someone just recently issued a -G within the past year, maybe that was Revell, too, but I don't remember off the top of my head. Scott (Elm City Hobbies) might be better able to say.

now we begin with the B-17B. after fumbling with the interior to a 1/72 b-24 i dont think im going to worry about the interior to these because of there size. i first have to get a couple of 1/48th projects out of my way. IMG_8089_zpse99a924e.jpg

It's nice to see your selections now. Are you going to stick with the OOB subjects, or do you have other, specific subjects in mind? The -D looks like "The Swoose", for example, and I don't know if there's a more celebrated example of that mark.

all the markings except for the swoose will be changed. the b-17e might be modified with the bedix remote bottom turret but decal selection are limited for early models its when you get into the f and g models you get more of a selection

Does the -E kit have the Bendix turret as an option, or will you have to scratch it?

I have to make that mod on my 1/48 B-17. I'm using the Revell (ie, originated with Revell, as a copy based on Monogram's -G) B-17F, to build a B-17E for my Midway collection. I'll probably make a master form and vacuform one.

im going to have to scratch build that one. i may steel one from a early b-25 kit then go from there. i will also be doing the yb-40 escort ship

Is there any chance you can show me a picture of your PW RC B-17 and tell me a little about it?? I contacted the gentleman who originally built this plane, he claims that the government impounded his items including his mould for the fuselage..so I'm having to fix everything from scratch

its in the trailer right now ill get it out in a few days. all i can say is contact http://www.pw-rc.com/ this is where you may be able to get some parts for it. its been out of production for a wile. its a sweet plane but it has a nasty stall. when you land you need to keep power on. i dont know what your rc experience is but its best to get some time with higher wing loading airplanes before flying this one. im just 27 but ive been flying giant scale b-17 for a year and im currently building a 1/6th scale b-17d

Well like i said previously, i contacted PW-RC and they claim the government impounded some of their stuff including the mold for the B-17 which is still stuck in the factory.

I've had over 2 years of flying experience and own a 1600mm P-51, 1400mm japanese zero and p-40...I'm a warbird type guy, but I also like jets. I fly all electrics and my fastest jet goes 115 to 120mph.

It's o.k....I'm trying to find some ways to fix this beat up airframe though....I'm going to have to recreate some of the wooden parts inside the fuselage and even add some strips of bass wood to re-enforce the airframe...do you have any suggestions??

well im almost done with the b-17b. i just need to do some id markings on this one IMG_8134_zps0766908c.jpgIMG_8133_zpsb99bd61a.jpgIMG_8132_zps20a4d963.jpg
i need to find my missing rear glazed nav light
