Greeting's everyone,
I am in the process of attempting my first NMF plane before I start an inter-office competition building what I hope to be a NMF Mig-21PF. The focus is more on working on the exterior then the interior. This is how it stands now, I will completing the panels and then sanding out the glue marks and what-nots soon.
So for your enjoyment...

Re: 1/48 Academy F-86F30

yeah, gaps are somewhat bad, but since this was going to be a practice build on doing a NMF fighter, I am thinking of it more as some much needed practice on seam filling. I have some putty on the way that I would like to experiment with and see how it works.

Re: 1/48 Academy F-86F30

I would highly recommend perfect plastic putty. Putty the seams and clean up immediately with a wet q tip and very little if any sanding is needed.

Oh, and what IS NMF??? Probably a duh moment on my part...

I'm willing to bet he's referring to a bare metal finish on the plastic

Re: 1/48 Academy F-86F30

Little bit of an update for now. Using the Perfect Plastic Putty and I have to say its working great. Going to see how i holds up. Sorry, yes this will be a natural metal finish paint job.

Re: 1/48 Academy F-86F30

Oh those gaps! Looks like you're handling those nicely though, keep it up :D

Re: 1/48 Academy F-86F30

Spent some more time sanding and putyying. Getting there.IMG_20150113_062540_zpsc5nzlnnv.jpgIMG_20150113_062518_zpstytsoy1j.jpgIMG_20150113_062529_zpsuzquiwiu.jpg

Had issues with fit of the nose and the fuselage.IMG_20150113_062503_zpsi8ladbyx.jpgIMG_20150113_062603_zpsngqsj2lo.jpg

Re: 1/48 Academy F-86F30

I thought my A-10 had issues! I thought Academy was supposed to be a decent kit. Now I am worrying over my F86F Revell I have sitting here. Hopefully it will be better than this, even if it is an old tooling.

I bet Mr Surfacer would be a big help once you get to that point.

Re: 1/48 Academy F-86F30

The Academy kit is a great kit. I bekieve some of the fit issues are due to me, not the kit. Same goes for the Revell kit. Haven't heard anything bad so build away! :D

Re: 1/48 Academy F-86F30

Completed some more work on this build last night. Was able to work on getting the seams flush and the issue with the nose not being flush with the rest of the craft. Definitely enjoying using the Perfect Plastic Putty, very easy to use. Had to use some around the canopy, so I will need to sand and mask that in the next couple of days.

Re: 1/48 Academy F-86F30

Sorry for the late updates. Still have lmited time to build plus still having problems accessing the forum. Had the chance to spray the primer on, using Mr. Surfacer 500.IMG_20150123_064253_zpsgxupfxhv.jpgIMG_20150123_064223_zps3ybmspip.jpgIMG_20150123_064212_zpscbkmsv4c.jpg

Re: 1/48 Academy F-86F30

had the chance to work on this over the weekend. The airframe is over a gloss black undercoat. The drop tanks (which I forgot to take pictures of, but will do tonight) were over dark gray Krylon Primer. Great learning experience. I can see where I need to work on my seam work and overall use of Alclad (sprayed too thick on some parts due to airbrush issues). Overall happy with it as a first time try, but I know I can do better.

Don't sell your work short here.
With where this kit started, this is looking very good

Re: 1/48 Academy F-86F30

Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been sick all of last week. yet I did have the chance to last night start on the decaling. On a side note... I have no kind words for the provided decals that came in this kit. They put up more of a fight then the sanding and decaling I did on my 1/537 scale Refit.

Re: 1/48 Academy F-86F30

Decals that large are never easy to get down right.
Looks to me like you've done a decent job of it
