This is a kit my kids bought for me for Christmas. So far no real fit issues aside from one. It is clear they intended for this model to be built with the nose cone open. They provided a very nicely done radar dish assembly. But I have never modeled a plane with that open. Just not my thing. The fit with the nose closed? Horrid. Lots of sanding and putty. I think I got it in line. Another shot of primer will tell the story when I get to it.

Otherwise, awesome kit! The fit has been wonderful elsewhere. The fuselage seams will require some minor sanding and possibly some Mr Surfacer 500 here and there. Dry fit of the nose to the fuselage shows me no major issues there. I am really enjoying this big girl.

And for a cookie, can anyone spot my screw up? ;)

Re: 1/32 Revel Tornado ECR

Looking good. Seems to be engineered in the same way Italeri's 1/48 IDS is. As for your cookie offer, can't find anything, really.

Re: 1/32 Revel Tornado ECR

I have the Revell Germany IDS in 1/48, and the approach is COMPLETELY different than what they did here.

Re: 1/32 Revel Tornado ECR

Yeah, from what I've seen, Revell's new 48 Tornado is different. I was talking about Italeri's 1/48.

Re: 1/32 Revel Tornado ECR

Is the cookie reward related to the nosecone fit issue ;D

BTW , I really like that first horizontal pic of the forward fuselage -- looks like it just survived a reentry from orbit

Re: 1/32 Revel Tornado ECR

OK, according to the kit and some photos I have found, it seems I used the wrong back seat control panel for the ECR. The one I used is for the IDS. Didnt realize it until I had totally completed the office and joined the fuselage halves. Thats what I get for actually reading the directions thoroughly. ::)

Re: 1/32 Revel Tornado ECR

Nice work on the Tonka. I have the same kit here in my stash some I'm closely following along with your progress.

Most modellers won't even notice/know the difference of the IDS seat back panel vs. the ECR seat back panel...

OK, so it took me a little while to wrap this one up. I kept having to step away from the decals. And here is why...

Revell dropped the ball here IMO. You can not tell where one decal starts and the other stops. They should have an exploded view of the stripes, and a separate instruction set for the stencils. Now, I will grant you that had I planned it out better, I would have reduced the issues. So the stripes on the right side do not match up going over the refueling probe. If you choose to do this kit, and I do recommend it regardless of shitty instructions, be very methodical and triple check your positioning before committing to putting the decal in water.

The other thing I learned is DO NOT use lacquer gloss coat over these decals. It causes them to bubble. Use water or acrylic based.

Before the pics of the finished product, one other thing. Revell came up with a really decent system for the weapons pylons to be able to rotate when you swing the wings. However, I managed to glue one solid, and knocked another off. So, I had to come up with something. And I did. I even purposefully broke off the other two and did it to them.

One word. Magnets. Rare earth magnets to be exact. I drilled out the proper areas to fit them and super glued them in. More involved than the description, but thats basically it. Now they can rotate. I can remove them at will for transport or dusting or whatever. I can see many uses for these babies in the future.

Oooo, ooo, another thing. LOL This is a heavy model. Then you have to add nose weight. I HIGHLY recommend getting the metal landing gears from SAC.

And here she is.
