My fathers surprise 1/1000 TOS Enterprise finally arrived in the mail yesterday. Since time is short work began right away. As many of you know its a snap kit, however glue, putty, and sanding come into play to make this ship perfect.

I'm building the production ship version, the kit provides parts and markings for 4 different versions of the TOS ship. This is by far the best snap kit I have worked on. Quality plastic, nice deep panel lines, minimal gaps. I do think it will build up to a perfect desktop Enterprise.

Great start. I have one that I started awhile back but didn't get much further than dry fitting. I'll be watching your build to see what hints I can pick up. :D

This is a great model kit and builds up into the most accurate version of the Enterprise (productrion, first pilot, second pilot) anyone could ask for south of the 1/350 kit that just came out.

Here's a pic of the one I built in orbit:

work continues...

Seams on the nacelles were not as bad as the main hull. A little sanding should get them smooth.

Leading edge of the nacelle fins and major gaps, had to jam a bit a putty under those.

Bottom of main hull under primer. Still a touch of the seam, a little more putty should fix that.

The entire bridge is provided as a clear part but only the very top should be clear. Masking this tiny area took several tries.

Cool ! Cool ,
Like the production pics ;D You may be familiar with this already but if not ,,,or for our viewers at home ,,, this stuff is perfect for this kinda masking :

And you don't have to 'cut to shape' if you brush it only on target so no worries on scratching the build !
More pics please :D

Nice work on that enterprise! Makes me want to get mine out.

I have had trouble with micromask sticking too well to the surface and not being able to get it off. But other than that it does work well.

yeah ---don't let the work cure any longer than needed ,,,,it has a retarder in the mix but just like acrylic mediums it will eventually cure out completely . Thicker is better .
It's good to paint up a little piece of scrap identical to the work so you can test the waters without messing up the prize .

MicroMask can be a chore to remove for sure. I've used scotch tape and hot water. Both work pretty well.

Thanks to everyone who has taken a look, the feedback is very helpful.

Work on the Enterprise continued at a fever pitch this weekend. To the point of forgetting to take pics at times. So here is a handful of shots of what went down over the weekend. As of today she is just waiting for the final dullcoat, if it would just stop raining.
