    1/72 Red 5 X-Wing - Completed

Thanks! I've been wondering about the Bandai. It looks like there are some details that are more accurate on them, though the panel lines look really wide/deep on the photos I've seen. It could be the way they have been painted/finished though. I also like the option to leave out the clear...

    1/72 Red 5 X-Wing - Completed

Ha! You could do a whole progressive series: "The life and times of an X-Wing--from factory floor to floor of the Death Star trench."

    1/72 Red 5 X-Wing - Completed

Thanks guys! This was a fun one to put together. I'm really digging oil paints for the weathering. I'm not great at it yet, but it seems to work out. I was looking at they 1:48 the other day and I'll definitely change some things and make some modifications to it if I ever get around to...

    1/72 Red 5 X-Wing - Completed

Re: 1/72 Red 5 X-Wing I'm calling this one done! :) But I was tempted to call it "I've lost Artoo!" I hate those little decals on crazy surfaces. The reference photos helped a lot, and this was great practice for a future 1:48 in my stash. I'll be making some modifications on that piece...

    1/72 Red 5 X-Wing - Completed

Re: 1/72 Red 5 X-Wing These oil processes are slow-going, and it's not nearly there yet, but I thought I'd add a few intermediate shots. Can't thank you enough for those studio model reference photos, Scootypuff! I may have overdone it a bit on the belly. I'll have to see how the rest...

    1/72 Red 5 X-Wing - Completed

Re: 1/72 Red 5 X-Wing More masking, more painting. Tonight I also used u.n. White oil to soften/fade the yellows and the canopy grey a bit. I'll see what it looks like tomorrow and decide if I want to do more fading (I think I do) before moving to weathering/panel painting.

    1/72 Red 5 X-Wing - Completed

Re: 1/72 Red 5 X-Wing Thanks for the links! I guess I should have been more specific in that I meant photographs of the original models. However, the third one claims to be exactly what I am after! I love these and will definitely use them! I'm not sure how I missed those photos before. I...

    1/72 Red 5 X-Wing - Completed

Re: 1/72 Red 5 X-Wing A little too clean! Hopefully we take care of that soon. I think I need to really tone down that yellow, too. This is also practice for a 1/48 x-wing, and I never realized how very little reference there seems to be. Particularly lacking is reference to red 5...

    1/72 Red 5 X-Wing - Completed

Re: 1/72 Red 5 X-Wing Found a little time this weekend to tackle some masking. I'm very pleased with the way this 1:1 mix turned out.

    1/72 Red 5 X-Wing - Completed

Re: 1/72 Red 5 X-Wing That photo is actually VERY helpful, spj. I paused ANH at a couple of points to get a good look and think I'll move the whole deal out towards the wing tips just a bit based on what I saw. There is a raised panel that it looks like the paint butts up against. Thanks!

    1/72 Red 5 X-Wing - Completed

Re: 1/72 Red 5 X-Wing Any particular advice for that? I'm planning to trim lengths of Tamiya masking tape to size and basically build a mask for each wing on my mat, then transfer them to the wings. I expect this to take far longer than I expect!

    1/72 Red 5 X-Wing - Completed

Re: 1/72 Red 5 X-Wing Thanks :) A minor update to the cockpit. I totally lost the small targeting computer, so I scratched one up and added the coiled cable. I also started masking for red paint. I'm hoping to paint as much as possible, adding decals only for those things I need to.

Finemolds 1/72 scale TIE Interceptor lighted

Wow! I built the 1/72 TIE Advanced (no lights) about a month ago, so I know how tight that fit would be. Impressive!

    G'day from Tampa Bay.

Indeed. Let us hope. I spent some time watching your build of the 1/48 TIE, which is potentially on the block next for me, complete with photo etch (so glad I found your vids). I also have the 1/48 X-Wing. I would like to do them as a pair. Theoretically I would love to have them on my...

The secret to handbrushing Tamiya acrylics is...

I literally was about to search for this topic, and here it was in the feed. Awesome! I've had the problem of it not lying down well at all and drying fast with no thinner, so just to be clear about the Tamiya thinner (x-20A): does the drying fast create more or less the same problems as...
