In over my head the Sea Witch Clipper ship night mare.

First thing is don't use balsa wood. It is way too soft and too open grained. The softest you want to go is basswood. Poplar is a good choice, a little harder than basswood but still very easy to work.

Which filters/washes should I use for my u-boat?

I would do pin washes- using white, black, brown, and maybe some orange- then tie it in with a gray filter. I have done this before on gray hulled vessels and have liked the results. Best bet though, get scrap plastic-paint it the same color as the sub- and experiment. Ron W.

I agree, I think you will achieve that with a filter instead of mixing paint. Ron W.

Tudor era sailing ships, Kit suggestions

Frank, This is a couple of months late, but I just this. Take a look at Heller's Spanish Galleon in 1/200 scale. They also have the Golden Hind, Sir Francis Drake's flagship, also in 1/200 scale. Both vessels are very late Tudor era, if they can even be considered that era. In plastic, I can't...

I was wondering what uses everyone has found for acetone, alcohol, vinegar, and any other household items. On thing I found out is don't use the higher concentration of alcohol on plastic. Thanks, Ron W.

    Spray Booth Recommendations?

If you aare going to spray enamels you need a brushless fan. I bought MicroMark's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd stage filters that they use for their booths and adapted them to my home made booth. They do a great job at reducing the vapors. Ron W.

    Liquid Masks

First off, I do apologize for the late response. I have a weird work schedule and unable to get to the computer during those times. :-\ Thanks for the help. I was very surprised when I saw that the masking had removed the Glosscote lacquer, but didnot touch the enamel paint underneath. ??? I...

    Liquid Masks

I had a little problem using Hobbico's liquid mask. I applied a few coats of of Testor's Glosscote to a ship in preperation of weathering. This was allowed to cure for about a week, had to go back to work >:(. I then applied liquid mask around the outer edge of the deck, as I was starting with...

    brush painting, getting frustrated.

These are a couple of things I have found that help when brushing enamels. First, the part has to be cleaned. I just wash the part with dishwashing liquid and avoid handling the part. Any oils on the part will mess up the paint. I also warm up the paint. This helps it flow better. I put the...
