    Revell PT boat

It would be fun to build every PT boat subject Revell issued, and line 'em up.

    1/35 Tamiya Rhino

I've got some old Testor's jars like that, from when I was a kid. Some of those enamels start congealing from the minute you open them, like gloss black and gloss white. But I have a bottle of copper that I got in the 70s, and it's still useable. As far as those colors go, if you were to use...

    1/35 Tamiya Rhino

Yeah, ejector pin marks. The pins pop the sprue out of the mold after the styrene is injected and set. You might be able to fix those, too, with some 2-part epoxy putty, or even some of the kit sprue, stretched over a candle to the right thickness and then laid in with some liquid styrene...

    Hello From The Great Basin

Welcome to the Herd, Curator! There are some styrene models of such vehicles, too, though most of them are classic kits, out of production. But those are interesting subjects. I look forward to seeing those builds. Best regards, Brad

    Revell PT boat

Nice progress, PM, and well done on cleaning up things like the ejector pin marks. It's an old kit, a year older than I am, issued in 1963. For its time, it was a pretty spectacular kit. I don't remember if it was released before or after Kennedy was assassinated, but the initial boxing was as...

My 1st and only attempt at a 120mm

Is that a Verlinden kit? You're off to a good start now!

My 1st RAF build in 40+ years - what color for wheelwells?

If you haven't already, I'd look for as many photographic references for that mark of the Spitfire as I could find. If nothing else, I start with Squadron's "In Action" and "Walkaround" booklets. Then any hardcopy references. And then online images are next, though with the caution that...

    Fng Tanker

I use a form of chipping technique on my Maschinen Krieger builds. I use a good enamel as a primer, Army Painter matte black. It adheres well and cures rock-hard. Then I use water-based acrylic finish colors over the primer. To chip, I use ScotchBrite pads to scuff and scrape through the...

Asuka Langley wearing a yellow dress Evangelion resin garage kit build

Nice finish! And yes, nice job on her eyes. Years ago, an anime modeler I followed, Cody Kwok, had a page on painting eyes in one of his tutorials on painting figures, and that helped a lot. The page is still available at https://codyscoop.com/ht-eyes.html, though his images are no longer...

    Opinions on Eduard's bombers?

Eduard reminds me of Monogram from back in the day, in the 70s, in that you can buy their kits for a reasonable price, and build the kit into a nice representation of the subject without too much difficulty. And if you want to go further and add more detail, or buy their more elaborate boxings...

    Mancave upgrade

Heh, heh, no matter how much room we give ourselves, we still wind up working on a space that's about 6 inches square, right in front of us on our benches. And when that fills up, that space shifts to our laps.

    D-Day collective build finished models/diorama's

Nice build! I like the officer talking to the paratroopers. He does look a little like Ike, in that photo. And the old Monogram C-47 is a great kit; it's always nice to see it get built. Well done! Best regards, Brad

SMA What's New In Your Stash?!?

Nice score, PM! The Hawk P-47D is a fun kit, with its parts to make either the razorback or bubbletop.

Probably a good idea to PM each other, at this point.

I have used the wrong putty?

I have to disagree. You can use a 2-part epoxy putty like Apoxie Sculpt to fill a seam, but it's still going to be a weak spot. Apply enough pressure to the filled-in seam, and it'll eventually pop. The putty'll be intact, but the join itself will open again. If you're sculpting, though, Aves...

Hi, I'm happy to be here

Welcome to the Herd, Plastic Pilot! Yeah, if you're new, you might want to be careful about the advice you get, and maybe consider a couple of replies and see if they agree first. But don't worry, we all have learned as we have gone along in building. Besides your A-10, do post pictures of your...

I have used the wrong putty?

I think you hit the cause right there. I'm not sure there is any putty out there that will withstand pressure, in the end. Even 2-part epoxy putty. It's just a question of how much pressure you apply till the seam the putty fills pops open again. I've never used that Vallejo putty, only...

    Tamiya paint question (XF-17 & XF-8)

Out of the jar, XF-18 is closer to the blue-grey in the US Navy's early WWII camo scheme, and close to AS-12, too. I use AS-12 for that color, too. XF-17 is a little darker than either AS-12 or XF-18. But looks like you've got a handle on it. It depends on whether you worry more about exact...

Revell P61, waiting for the hammer to fall

That Airfix kit is 1/72 scale, though, if I'm not mistaken. If guys are going complain about Monogram's old technology and poor fit, they're not going to want to build the old Airfix Black Widow.
